My dog is vomiting and has diarrhea. What should I do right now?

Unfortunately, I can't recommend any specific treatment because there are many different possible causes. He could have intestinal parasites, an intestinal obstruction, gastroenteritis, or an endocrine or metabolic disease (issue with internal organs that is making him feel overall crappy, rather than something specifically wrong with the intestinal tract). Additionally, many medications for humans aren't safe for our pups. He really does need to go to the vet for further testing and treatment. You can also talk to the vet about giving him anti-anxiety medications for future visits to help with his anxiety. I hope he's feeling better soon.

Poor guy! I'm so sorry Laddoo is sick. He looks miserable, and if she's vomiting and not eating you need to take him to a veterinarian. I am so sorry but there isn't anything I can safely advise you to do at home that is going to really help him. Since he is so young, its possible that his blood sugar is low due to not eating and vomiting--you can rub some corn syrup on his gums to see if that helps, and keep water or broth closeby to enourage him to drink. You can use a dropper to get it into his mouth but ONLY if he is agreeable with this and is voluntarily swallowing it--if you force water he may aspirate and develop pneumonia. I wish there was more I could offer for you to try at home, but you really need to take him to a vet.

I would recommend that Leia go back to the vet for evaluation since her symptoms have been slowly progressing. There aren't any OTC medications I would recommend at this time since we don't know what is causing it to happen. She may not have bowel movements either due to the lack of food in her GI tract or simply from having diarrhea. You can offer bland human foods like boiled white chicken breast or cooked white rice.

If he is lethargic right now, I would get him seen now because he is likely dehydrated and needs fluids administered under the skin for hydration. I am so sorry to hear that Buddy has diarrhoea and vomiting. This is common when food changes occur. I would start but resting his gastrointestinal tract for a few hours. Then place him on a bland diet which is easily digestiable such as boiled boneless chicken breast and Steamed rice. Though it is most likely the food change which has caused the issues, there are a number of other potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few hours I would continue to monitor Buddy at home . For hydration purposes you can use low sodium chicken broth or save some of the broth you boil the chicken in and offer that to Buddy. Also provide plenty of fresh water. If Buddy does not improve, has profuse vomiting or diarrhoea, you notice fresh blood, Buddy seems lethargic, in pain or depressed I would advise a trip to the veterinarian. Withhold all food and treats for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or an unflavored electrolyte replacement beverage. No more than 2-3 tablespoons every hour, less if she vomits. After she sees the vet, she may need a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until the vomiting and diarrhea resolve after which you can slowly transition her to the regular diet. You can take her temperature rectally using a thermometer and sterile lube. If it is 103.5 F (39.7 C) or greater, have her seen at the nearest veterinary ER tonight. Normal body temp for dogs is 100 F to 102.5 F (37.7 C - 39.1 C).
