Is it safe for my dog to fly with uveitis, or should he be boarded?

That's a good question. I would recommend making her adoption contingent on an exam and consultation with an oncologist (at your cost) to get this question adequately answered. Based on my knowledge, it's important to find an underlying cause for the uveitis and that process can be expensive, and then whatever is causing it could be expensive. It definitely not a no-big-deal thing. But if you're interested in her, and could afford it, getting her a specialist consultation would be wonderful

Yes, a vet should look at this before you drop her off for boarding. She may have an eye infection and that needs quick treatment to prevent it from getting worse. Also, there would be some concern from the boarding facility if your pet came in with eye discharge that had not been checked. They have to make sure she does not have something contagious to the other dogs that will be boarding there. They may refuse to admit her to the facility without a veterinarian's okay.

This can be caused by either an eye injury/trauma from playing or by an eye infection (common in boarding kennels), either way you must take her to the vet to get the eye checked and she will probably need a prescription antibiotic eye drops to solve this problem.

I sympathize with you. Painful eyes are very difficult to deal with. The answer to your question depends on if the reason for the problem is that the antibiotics aren't working because of the type of bacteria or the underlying disease. Unfortunately, it is difficult to know that information. I think your best option would be to see a specialist. Veterinary ophthalmologists have 4 years of specialized training in treating only eyes, so they have a much greater knowledge of eyes than normal vets. I actually took my 15 year old dog to a veterinary ophthalmologist last month because I want to avoid removing one of his eyes. She used medication that I have never used in my practice in 15 years and my dog is doing great now. Hi, I can see the yellowish discharge in the right eye. In cases of eyes I would always play it safe and recommend to have it checked by a vet properly stain the eye to ensure cornea is intact and no foreign body etc. Since the dog is active , drinking , eating etc and not scratching/rubbing or bothered by the eye it is not urgent but I would schedule an appointment with the vet when they are open after the new year. Monitor she is not scratching the eye as even one movement can scratch and self traumatize the eye, so if start bothering her and she is scratching take her to the vet sooner as she will need an E collar.

Hello, if Starsky were to have a corneal ulcer, this is a serious condition that requires immediate treatment by a vet. Most ulcers that are treated promptly improve with basic supportive care such as pain meds, eye drops, and potentially serum drops (your vet may take a blood sample from your dog, spin it down to remove red blood cells, and send the remaining serum with you to be putting drops in Starsky's eye). However, if you postpone his vet visit, the ulcer could get larger and deeper, could even perforate the cornea and cause permanent blindness, or require a corneal graft surgery to heal, or even require complete removal of the eye. It is definitely in the best interest of both Starsky and you (from a financial perspective) to get his eye treated ASAP. Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Oliver! Did they diagnosis him with glaucoma? If yes that is very painful and usually results in permanent blindness. You can ask your Vet for eye drops to lower the pressure in his eyes (for comfort purposes until surgery) and oral pain medications. You can also have your Vet refer you to a Veterinary ophthalmologist for a second opinion. I wish you and Oliver the best!
