My pug has ticks and hair loss. Are there any home remedies?

Pls help me my dog pug had a heavy hair fall and 4 ticks . Give me some home natural remedies

Poor Blessy. There are no home remedies for either ticks or loss of hair I'm afraid. It is likely that the ticks are causing the hair loss. I can however recommend some good quality tick prevention for her, such as: Preventic collar, Seresto collar (tick and flea preventative, lasts 8 months), or the new product Simparica. These all require a prescription from your veterinarian. The only over the counter product I recommend is Advantix. I would not recommend any flea/rock shampoo's because they don't tend to work and only dry out the skin. If you see live ticks on Blessy right now you can remove them with tweezers, making sure to get the head out OR if you don't feel comfortable you can let your local vet do this for you. Poor girl. I hope you get some resolve soon for Blessy's tick problem. Take care and best of luck.

I would recommend the Seresto collar or the oral flea and tick preventatives like Nexgard, Simparica and Bravecto. Vinegar does not kill any species of tick. In my experience the natural products do not work for ticks or fleas and the risk of the diseases they transmit is greater than the use of non-natural products. My puppy has ticks, and current treatments aren't working. What helps?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Charlie! I recommend the following products for ticks: Nexgard, Bravecto, Simparica or the Seresto Collar. The spot on treatments, bathing and powders do not work well anymore. Hopefully you can get one of the above products from your Vet. The Seresto collars can be found online but I have heard of counterfeit ones being sold on amazon so be careful of online sources. It is best to try to get them from your Vet. My pug has hair loss and thick, scabby skin. How can I treat it?

This is probably due to a severe allergy, although it could also be fleas or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat Lila with a high quality flea treatment (e.g. advocate or advantage), then get her to the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try discovering the cause of the allergy. Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair the skin lesions (steroids and antibiotics). simultaneously you should start her on a prescription hypoallergenic diet for at least 2 months. Hopefully you will see some results after all this, if not you and your vet should consider putting her on a long term allergy treatment (Atopica or Apoquel).

How to easily remove and prevent ticks on a thick-coated puppy?

The best way to get rid of ticks would be to use an oral tick preventive like Nexgard or Simparica. You give him a tablet and the ticks will die. If you use it every month, it will prevent the vast majority of ticks from attaching to Oli. If you cannot get one of these products, wash him in a flea and tick shampoo. Make sure to read the directions carefully as it often requires you to leave the shampoo in contact with the skin for 10 minutes or so. Each product is different and will tell you the appropriate directions. Brushing him will also help. In some parts of the world, ticks can transmit diseases. I recommend to call your local veterinarian and ask if any further action needs to be taken. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I would recommend using a flea and tick preventative such as Frontline, Nexgard or Bravecto. He will likely need a shampoo to help soothe his skin after the ticks die. My dog has a tick infestation. What's the best immediate remedy?

There are a few oral products that generally work very well for ticks if you can get them. They are Nexgard and Simparica. They are tablets that you give once a month. Both dogs should be started on this medications your veterinarian agreed. First you will need to speak with your veterinarian to make sure these medications are not contraindicated. Most parents can take them but pets with seizures may not. Make sure to ask your local veterinarian if there are concerns for tickborne diseases in your area. If so, your veterinarian may want to treat the pets prophylactically. Treating the local environment as best you can with insecticides may also help. I hope this gives you some ideas. Best of luck.
