My dog has a swollen nostril growth and snores. What should I do?

Poor girl. This most likely is either a mass (cancerous or benign) or an inflammatory response to a potential foreign body inside the nasal passage. It could also be an immune mediated condition. Since all of these things can look exactly alike, the only way to know for sure is to get this area tested by your vet. If there are any new things that you have introduced to your pet, then I would be suspicious that this may be a weird allergic reaction to that particular thing and remove it to see if this resolves the issue before seeking further testing. As long as this isn't bothering Piggy then you can take a few days to sort things out and then visit your vet if you think testing is the next best step. Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! From the pictures you have provided, I would suspect this to be a skin tumor. It looks to be benign and similar to what we call a sebaceous adenoma. It may have been much smaller previously and if it was bumped or traumatized may have grown in size due to inflammation. If this is bleeding and does not go down in size, I would suggest having it removed. Many of these can be frozen off with cryo treatment that many vet clinics provide as a service. A lesion like that could be several things including an ingrown hair, allergies, skin mites, bacterial infection or a skin tumor/mass. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesion once a day (not her whole body, just the lesion). Also protect the area from trauma by having your pup wear an elizabethan collar at all times. If the lesion does not start improving within a week or if it is getting worse, have her examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

It could be an infection, inflammation, tumor, etc. He should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a needle aspirate to help diagnose and then determine the best treatment. He may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or other medications depending on the cause.

Since she isn't responding to antibiotics I would worry that she has a tooth root abscess, a nasal tumor or a fungal infection in her nasal cavity. Since the growth is on the nose, it would be best to bring Quinn into your vet for care. Tumors, fungal infections, abrasions, burns, etc can all cause signs like you are seeing, and since some are more serious issues, should be seen and treated, especially if the area is growing rapidly in size. Your vet can take a scraping or biopsy from the area to check under a microscope and see what is going on.

I see what you mean about the growth on Guster's nose. This could simply be a benign growth, but it could be malignant. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed.
