My dog's neck is swollen. Should I continue Pentid or use Chymoral?

I am surprised by the amount of medications you are giving. This is way too much and cannot think of a reason to give all of those at once. The cause of the wound would need to be known for me to know how to fix it, but I will give you some advice that should be helpful for any wound. The most important thing is to keep the wound clean. Start by shaving away all the hair around the wound. Wash the wound with just cool water. This is very important. Do not use any soap or gentian violet. These can actually cause more damage than good. Wash the wound with cool clean water 3 times a day. Do not scrub the wound - only gently wipe away crusts or dirt. I recommend only giving the oxytetracycline and cefalexin if prescribed by a veterinarian. If a vet did not advise, then you should stop these medications until given a dose by a vet. Stop the mefenamic acid. This is not a dog medication and can be deadly. If you can bandage the wound or keep covered, this will help it to heal quicker. It is best to keep the wound moist and not let if dry. I know this seems odd that all I am recommending is cool water and bandage, but I promise you, this is the best way to manage a wound. Giving too much medication can be worse for the wound than having no medication. I am very sorry that Kamilio's paw is so sore! Thank you for providing pictures. With that level of swelling, redness, and hair loss I am very concerned about he infection present. I am sure it's very painful for Kamilo. The first step is to make sure that Kamilo has an e-collar on so he can't lick or bite at the area. When spots are painful or itchy, dogs often want to bite or lick, but this causes increased tissue damage and higher likelihood of infection. You can also try a warm compress for 5 minute intervals throughout the day to ease the swelling and pain. I believe you should continue to the antibiotic course your vet prescribed. I would advise a recheck with the vet however. I am not sure how his paw looked two weeks ago, but this doesn't look like it is healing well. The infection may need a different antibiotic, anti-inflammatory medication, and pain relief. there is also the chance that there is a forgein body stuck inside the paw such as a migrating grass seed. I am so sorry for you and Kamilo and I hope it feels better soon.

I would worry that Vettie could have a disease like lymphoma if his glands are not better with antibiotics. I’d recommend making a recheck appointment with your vet. The next step might be to take an aspirate if the glands using a small needle and sending the sample to a pathologist to review.

It sounds as though your vet initially suspected an infection causing the swelling around Lexi's neck. There can be some very minimal fluctuation in the prominence of the salivary glands and lymph nodes that are located under the neck, which can certainly occur with infections. However, other conditions can also cause swelling in these areas. Puppy strangles (also called juvenile cellulitis) is an autoimmune condition that can cause some pretty prominent swellings around the neck. Given Lexi's age, this would be my first suspicion. Other issues, including lymphoma or a salivary mucocele, are always possible, although they'd be highly unlikely in such a young puppy. At this point, I think your next step is to take Lexi back to her vet for a follow up visit. Your vet will likely want to run some diagnostic testing on this swelling or even some baseline blood work to check her blood cell counts and organ function. Depending on their findings, they may prescribe steroids to help treat puppy strangles or another medication to treat a different condition. I hope that everything goes well!

Oh my. Poor pup. This appears to be a very large swelling which can be either an inflammatory response to a foreign body, cellulitis, an abscess, seroma or even neoplasia has to be considered although lower on the list because of his age. I would highly recommend having the sample fluid sent to the lab for analysis. If it comes back as serosanguinous, then there is likely a foreign body inside which would require surgical exploration if nothing can be seen poking into it from the outside. If suspicious cells are seen on the fluid analysis report, then you should still do he exploratory surgery, but with subsequent mass removal. The steroids likely caused a reduction in swelling because it is likely an inflammatory response due to a possible foreign body. I hope you get some resolve soon for Trey. Best wishes.

Hello. This sounds like a Carnassial tooth root abscess ( 4th upper premolar ). This is a very common dental infection & usually means the tooth needs to be removed. At the very least, he definitely needs to be started on antibiotics & needs a good dental cleaning. Once done, these things tend to heal up very nicely. Please, take Martha to your local vets to confirm the diagnosis and to start treatment for her. If it is an abscess, Martha will need a course of antibiotics and possibly lancing of the abscess. If it is salivary gland cyst, your vet will likely recommend surgery as conservative treatment for salivary cysts does not provide satisfactory results.
