My dog's cut is swollen. Is it infected? How do I care for it?

This does look quite swollen and would be worthwhile having it rechecked and a small sample drawing to rule out infection and to determine if any additional treatment is required. It can occasionally require revision and restitching to close the pocket of swelling if persistent as the skin becomes stretched

This does look a bit infected and the swelling and redness support this. I suggst you keep her from licking her foot (put an e-collar on her) and pay your veterinarian a visit for an exam and wound care.

It looks like there is accumulation of fluid (the cranial swelling) and inflammation of the surgical site. the rest of the wound looks like it is healing. a check up and physical examination it is essential in her case to rule out any accumulation of fluid (which could be even pus).

Poor Brooklyn. I'd be concerned about infection. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

The fact that it is swollen with a yellow bump has me concerned that it is becoming infected. You could clean the area with a wound wash but he really should be examined and treated by a vet as he may need an antibiotic.

The wound looks dry and not swollen. A small amount of discharge (not pus) even clear blood, would be normal. If your dog is otherwise normal, eating and drinking ok and normal activity level and not painful, I would just monitor her at this stage and make sure she does not lick the wound and rest her as much as possible. A buster collar would be helpful in case of any licking.

I would be sure the Area is cleaned will with a mild soap or hibiclens soap (available at the drug store) and apply an antibiotic ointment such as neosporin several times a day. If his hair on his chin is sticking to the wound you may need to trim around it to prevent this. If the wound increase in size/swelling or develops a discharge then you should see a vet for examination. If during the fight either dog but the other then he should see a vet for an exam and avrabies booster if he isn't up to date on his vaccine.
