Why are new itchy bumps appearing on my dog's legs suddenly?

Hello. This sounds like it might be an allergic reaction. This could result in swelling around the airways. If hives are present (raised, haired bumps about 1cm across), then I would suggest a visit to the vet for some medications. Good luck with your little one!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be due to allergies. The bumps are likely a secondary infection. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

This looks like an area of skin infection. The smaller two bumps are pustules and the larger area is a pustule that has ruptured. Sometimes, if confined to a small area, these can be treated with topical antibacterial medication. If, however, it is more widespread your dog may need oral antibiotics. I hope this helps. Hello, these are hives so Max is having an allergic reaction to something. He may have been bitten by something or inhaled dust & pollen that initiated the reaction. If he is acting normal, this will probably subside over the next 6-12 hours. If he is in any distress at all, itching, wheezing, drooling or vomiting, he needs veterinary attention. If he does not seem bothered by the bumps, you can try bathing him in a mild oatmeal based shampoo, using only cool water. Let the shampoo sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing. If need be you can repeat this tomorrow. If you are at all worried about how he is acting, please see your veterinarian who has the medications necessary to treat this issue. Hello, sorry to hear about Ginsber. It looks like he could have allergies. This is particularly suspicious because majority of the spots are on his legs which may be exposer to grasses and other environmental allergens. However, the other potential cause for this could be flea bites and flea allergy dermatitis. Please make sure that Ginsber has adequate flea control year round. You can also wipe him down with skin sensitive baby wipes each day after coming in from being outdoors to decrease his allergen exposure. If he is scratching and licking, he may need allergy medications which can be prescribed by your veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.

This looks like a hot spot on Lucky's leg. This usually occurs from excessive licking of the area and an infection that is present in the skin. Lucky will need antibiotics to help clear up the infection. He may also need some allergy medication to prevent the area from coming back. The bumps behind the ears are probably due to allergies as well. I would recommend a trip to your vet to get some antibiotics for the leg and possibly some allergy medication if indicated. Hello, and thank you for your question. The photos look like raised bumps, making me think about insect bites. Other possibilities include bacterial infection or fungal infection. I would try gently bathing the area with a gentle aloe and oatmeal based shampoo. Alternatively you could try applying a bit of pure aloe vera gel to the spots to help relieve discomfort. If they are insect bites, they may improve with time. If the skin does not improve within the next 24 hours, I would suggest taking Simba to the vet. They can perform tests such as a skin scraping, skin cytology or fungal culture to help determine the cause of the lesions. At minimum, they can provide medications to reduce itching, and antibiotics if an infection is suspected. If Simba is licking or scratching the area, I would also put an e-collar (cone) on his head, and a t-shirt in his body, to prevent him from licking and scratching and causing further trauma to his skin.
