Found old female Golden Retriever, strange thigh wound. What is it?

Since the skin is broken and/or inflamed, Bruno should be physically examined by your veterinarian. He may need antibiotics, anti-inflammatories or both. If there is a lump or mass associated with the sore, it should be aspirated to collect samples for pathology. Use an e-collar (cone) to prevent Bruno from licking it.

This should be seen and examined by a veterinarian. This could be an infected hotspot, an ulcerated tumor or another skin condition that needs veterinary attention. Since it looks infected I would definitely make an appointment for the next few days. Depending on the diagnosis your vet will prescribe medications or suggest removal of the mass. This is a tricky spot for mass removal, as there is very little skin available to close the wound, so it will likely take a few weeks to months to heal after surgery.

It looks like Pia has a growth on her belly, and it could simply be a benign growth. I would have her seen by a vet for it. Any suspicious growths should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the growth to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. The vet can diagnose what is causing the growth and if it needs to be removed or not.

I would recommend that you make an appointment for your veterinarian to examine Tyson and in particular this area that is worrying you. They will be able to determine if it is a mass and if further investigation is needed. This may include a fine needle aspirate of the mass (using a needle to obtain a sample of cells that can be looked at under the microscope), an incisional biopsy (where a small part of the mass is removed and examined by a pathologist) and an excisional biopsy (where the whole mass is removed and examined by a pathologist). It is always better to get lumps checked whilst they are still small to make removal easier and less invasive if that is deemed necessary.

It does not appear to be a wound, just an area of irritation and hair loss. This could be the start of a skin infection in this area that may have been caused by a bite from the other dog. I would recommend applying a antibiotic ointment such as Sentry Wound Ointment (can be found at PetCo) and apply twice daily for 5-7 days. If the area becomes bigger or new lesions develop, I would recommend having Penelope examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. What you are seeing is bruising and is common with orthopedic procedures. This should be ok to wait until tomorrow to be rechecked by the veterinarian that performed the procedure. By using typically resolved after the first couple of weeks. I hope this helps ease your mind! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

It is probably a spindle cell tumor and should be removed. There is no way to know if it is malignant or benign without doing a histopathology on the mass after it is removed. I suggest you have this done while the mass is still relatively small and hopefully non-invasive into the underlying tissues. ( http://www.michigananimalhospital.com/page/468687590 )
