Dog stepped in cement, now has paw wounds. How can I treat them?

The wound should be assessed by your veterinarian. Wild Bill may need antibiotics and pain management. DO not medicate him without the advice of your vet. Many OTC medications can be toxic to dogs. In the meantime, restrict activity to just leash walks for elimination. Avoid or prevent excessive running, jumping or rough play.

It's difficult to tell what's going on from the picture. I'm concerned there is a serious infection or a cancerous growth there and would recommend taking the pup to a veterinarian to be evaluated. If you are unable to do that, then the best you can do is to clean the area with lukewarm water and a mild soap, and keep it nice and dry. If the dog is chewing at it at all, an e collar can be used to prevent him from getting back there. However, I do not think this is going to resolve without veterinary intervention.

Ouch, poor Oakley! Gently wash his paw with warm water and antiseptic soap. Bandage it and put a sock over his foot to keep the bandage clean and dry. Change the bandage daily and keep an eye out for signs of infection. They include redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, and pus. If you see any of those signs, take him into the vet for antibiotics. He's limping because he is in pain, so rest him for now. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on leash only, and bring him right back in when he's done. Please do not give him any human pain medication. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Ouch! I would keep the paw as clean and dry as possible, and keep Nike from licking at it by placing an Elizabethan (cone) collar on him. Limiting activity so he doesn't keep walking on it and introducing any more debris into the foot is also a good idea. Since it is such a big wound, seeing if you can get into the vet sooner is also a good idea so he can get started on pain meds or antibiotics as needed.

If you can keep her from walking or running around by putting her into a crate, for example, and can so make her rest, then this will likely alleviate some pain. However if the pain increases or your dog appears to be very painful, you will need to take Saki to an emergency veterinarian for an exam, diagnosis and pain control. If the wound is only partial thickness and not bleeding it is probably of no advantage to bandage the paw if it is distressing him. I recommend bathing the area 3-4 times daily with saline or betadine, if lame you should contact your vet to discuss pain relief
