Dachshunds sneezing in dry, cold house. Is it dry air? How to help?

What a cutie pie! I would try putting a humidifier in the room with him overnight or putting him in the bathroom while you run a steamy shower for 10-15 minutes to provide some beneficial moisture to his airways. If he develops discharge from the nose, coughing, eye discharge, decreased appetite, decreased energy these would be reasons to seek veterinary care. You can ask your vet if it would be ok to give him an antihistamine such as Benadryl or Zyrtec to see if it could be allergy related as well. We do use these drugs in dogs, but I always recommend checking with your vet before starting any new medication.

It’s definitely possible that the dogs are passing along a virus or bacteria. It’s also possible that the air quality inside the house is dry and circulating a lot of dust particles which can cause irritation to the lining of the nose. Monitor both dogs for progression of respiratory signs, decreased energy levels or not eating well. You can also use a humidifier and an air filter in the areas where they hang out most to improve air quality. Adding omega 3 fatty acids for dogs can also help. Max could be sneezing for several reasons and the most common are infection or allergies. A foreign object stuck in the nose, fungal infection or cancer can also cause dogs to sneeze. It could be an upper respiratory tract infection, allergies, something stuck in the nasal cavity, among a few other things. If Dior is otherwise normal, I would continue to monitor him at home for signs of illness, such as lethargy, rectal temperature over 103, coughing, decreased appetite, etc. If these occur, then he should definitely get checked out by a vet.

I don't think that water or humidity would cause sneezing episodes like this. It is more likely that it's an allergy to something in the environment or something that is irritating the nasal passages such as fragrances, smoke or something else. If he's only doing this when he comes into and then leaves the bathroom, look for anything in the bathroom that might cause irritation.

You could put him in a steamy bathroom or a room with a humidifier/vaporizer and see if that helps moisten any secretions and relieve the congestion. You could also try a saline nasal spray. Otherwise, he needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. He may need an antibiotic and/or other medications and your vet can prescribe.

Cigarette smoke is a respiratory irritant to dogs, so that could be why Daisy is sneezing more when she is outside with you. In the future, I would avoid having her with you when you are smoking, keep her indoors. Allergies could also be playing a part in her sneezing, and Daisy could be allergic to environmental allergies and cleaners in the home. I recommend having her seen by a vet for blood tests to diagnose if she does have allergies, and your vet can prescribe medications to help her symptoms.
