Why does my dog have small holes or spots on her lower body?

Poor Cookie! Her itching could be due to fleas, mites, ringworm, or allergies. Of big concern is her swollen mammary gland. This could be due to mammary cancer, and 50% of those tumors are malignant. She really needs to see a vet today for all of these problems. Please take her into one.

The scraping is evaluated under the microscope to look for any mites. If so, treatment will be started. If not, he will likely be checked for ringworm or possibly allergies will be considered. Poor cookie, this looks very uncomfortable and appears to be causing weight loss also. It is likely this is a skin infection or allergy and your vet may wish to run some tests to identify the type of infection prior to prescribing the most appropriate treatment

Hello and thank you for your post! It certainly looks like it could resemble ringworm and with tater tots age, it makes her more susceptible to infections with an older immune system. If you haven't had tater tots blood tested in a while, I would also make sure that she does not have any other problems that could cause her immune system to be down. It certainly isn't an emergency and can wait to be seen by your vet. However, that being said, I would still try to keep the other dogs away from her and be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after touching her. I would have your vet scrape her skin to check for mites as well. I would get a plastic cone for tater as well so that she does not chew at the area. The pictures are difficult to see, but it appears that Cookie may have an infection on her skin. It may be caused by bacteria and could be secondary to scratching, fleas, or an allergy. I would get her on a good flea preventive if she's not on one already, but I think she may need to see a veterinarian as these infections sometimes need antibiotics to clear up.

I am assuming that this is a dog? The areas of hair loss on the skin could be caused my a multitude of problems, but most common would be something called demodex. Demodex is a mite that is present mostly in very young dogs or dogs with immune suppression from other conditions. I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. A common cause of darkened skin in these areas is from chronic inflammation, which could be caused by fleas, flea allergies, food allergies, bacterial or yeast infections, etc. I would recommend starting Cookie on a monthly flea preventative if she isn't already, and checking in with your vet to see what could be going on.
