My dog is sick after chewing a bone. Why is he shivering and sluggish?

Poor girl. I would highly recommend taking Ella to your local vet if she has vomited more than 2 times and is acting as ill as you say. Even if she vomited up most of the bone it could have still caused some irritation to her GI tract. Her shivering is likely due to her being in pain/discomfort. The vet can give her injectable medication that won't be thrown back up to help her comfort and also stop the vomiting. I would not recommend any over the counter human pain medication for your pet because it will likely make things worse. I do hope that your pet EllaMae is able to make a full and speedy recovery. Shooter has probably developed gastritis from eating the bone. I would recommend withholding food (water is ok as long as he’s not vomiting it all up) for 12-24 hours. After that you can try feeding him something that will be easily digestible and easy on his GI tract like plain boiled chicken and rice. If the vomiting continues for more than 24 hours and/or if he starts having diarrhea then I would take him in to the vet to be examined. I hope this helps. I'm quite concerned this bone is causing Simba's problems. Bones should never be given to dogs because they cause obstructions, and he is potentially showing signs of an obstruction. You need to take him into a vet immediately.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry Shadow isn't feeling well. It could be pancreatitis but it could also be just general stomach upset. He ate something his body isn't used to and there were sharp bone fragments. He could also have a piece of the bone stuck somewhere. I would recommend taking him to the vet because he is young and I don't want him to dehydrate. They may need to take X-rays. They can then give him medications to calm his stomach. In the future I would not recommend giving Shadow any bones for fear of the above things. Good luck and kisses to Shadow!

It sounds as Ella is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

If Scooby has been lethargic and not eating, especially after eating 3 chew bones, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would recommend having abdominal x-rays taken to see if he has developed a foreign object intestinal obstruction from the bone chews. He may also be dehydrated, have pancreatitis, etc. It is impossible for me to say for sure without examining him and performing diagnostics. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
