Why is my old Pomeranian sick, not eating, and smelling after a kick?

wo weeks ago a neighborhood kid kicked my 14 year old Pomeranian, at first he was in pain but functional. Now this past week he has deteriorated to the point he doesn't want to eat, drink, walk. He now has to be carried to the yard to go potty where he struggles and shakes just to get up to pee, and falls back down yesterday he tried to have a bm and was unable to. He also smells an awful rotten fish and ammonia smell that is so bad the whole room smells even after a bath. We are making an appoi

Oh, poor Jack! How awful - I'm so sorry that this happened. It looks like your question was cut off due to character limits, so I'm not sure what you wanted to ask. It sounded like you were about to say that you're making an appointment to take him to the vet, which is excellent - it sounds like he definitely needs a vet visit! In fact, I would actually recommend taking him in right away rather than waiting for an appointment, because it sounds like he's very seriously ill or injured - I would be concerned that it may not be safe to wait even another day.

It's hard to know for sure what might be wrong without being able to examine him, but it sounds like he could have a serious back injury if he's unable to stand or walk on his own. This would also explain why he's been so painful. It's also possible that he has internal injuries to his liver, kidneys, or other organs that are making him feel so sick. Your veterinarian can examine him and will probably also recommend blood work and x-rays to help determine what's wrong and see what can be done to treat him.

    How cruel that poor Jack was kicked by a neighborhood kid! I think your post was cut off because the last bit of information I received was "We are making an appoi...." Having Jack seen by a vet is the best thing to do, and he should see a vet immediately. He sounds very ill and he could have suffered internal injuries from the kick. He needs veterinary attention now, please take him into a vet asap.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jackey. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. I am concerned that he has developed an upper respiratory tract infection. In this case, affected dogs will cough and gag up a white foamy material. If this is his problem, he will likely need oral antibiotics. I hope this information!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Jack! Jack is obviously painful! Beagles commonly get slipped disks in their backs and suffer from back and neck pain. The symptoms you are describing occur with back or neck pain. It is best to have Jack seen by a Vet. I treat back pain with strict rest, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants and pain medications. I do not recommend starting human medications as they might interfere with your vet's choice of medications. I hope this helps and I wish Jack the best!

However, those signs are rather non-specific and while I agree with you that something is likely wrong with him, further work-up would be needed to know what is causing him to be unwell. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Likely diagnostics include bloodwork and radiographs if he appears to be in discomfort. I’m so sorry Chibbu is sick. It sounds like the cough and limping are better but now the concern is vomiting, diarrhea, and not wanting to move much. The vomiting and diarrhea could be due to antibiotics If he is still on them, it could be due to the diet change (milk can cause upset stomach as most dogs can’t digest it well), or it could be due to whatever is going on. I am particularly worried for organ disease or failure (liver and kidney) and possible cancer. With his age and signs, I would definitely get into a vet if possible. Blood work and X-rays/ultrasound would be a good place to start to find out what’s going on.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! So sorry to hear about Jack. Cute name. He sounds very weak especially if he is not eating or drinking. Many things could be going on such as pain, intestinal worms, fever from many sources - infection, inflammation, etc. Kittens commonly develop upper respiratory infections due to viruses but can then develop secondary bacterial infections. It's best to take him to your veterinarian right away so they can perform a physical exam including his vitals to see if he has a fever. Once they perform that, they can advise fecal tests, blood tests, or x-rays to help them determine what is causing him problems. I hope Jack gets well soon.

Poor Jack sounds very sick, and he needs immediate veterinary attention. This is not something that can be treated at home. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies.
