My new dog is shy and hides in her crate. Should I give calming meds?

Updated on September 23, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Croatian Sheepdog | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 3 months old | 15 lbs

We get got a Shelton collie and she is 4 years old. She is very shy and doesn’t want to come out of her crate. Would it be a good idea to get some calming meds to give her to help her adjust to her new environment

It probably wouldn’t hurt to try a calming supplement like Composure, Zylkene or Solliquin. Adaptil is a pheromone available in collars and sprays that can help as well. If Jessie seems extremely fearful you may want to talk to your vet about trying some other sedatives while you are also working on behavior training.
