My dog is shedding, has painful sores, won't eat. Is it serious?

It is concerning that he is not eating. Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Yoyo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. It sounds like Major is extremely ill, and to leave him in this condition is cruel. He could have something curable, but he needs treatment with a vet. I would consider this a medical emergency. Please take him into a vet immediately.

This is something that can be checked by fine needle aspiration or biopsy. Treatment would depend on the findings. A veterinarian could at the very least start Kora on pain control medications as this is likely causing her pain. I am so sorry that she is going through this. I am really hoping they can help her. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mochi! I am glad you will be bringing him to the Vet! I would worry about mites, either demodex or scabies, ring worm or a bad skin infection. If it is a skin infection the Vet will likely prescribe a medicated shampoo and antibiotics. If he has mites they will prescribe medications. As of now I would just wait for the exam, I would say bathe him but it would be ideal for the Vet to see his skin as is. Try to feed him some boiled chicken or watered down canned puppy food. Good luck!

Hello. Let's give this the benefit of the doubt that this is just some shedding. The important thing is that there are no obvious skin lesions, so see how things go over the next several weeks. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You are very kind to take in Bear There are many reasons for him to have hair loss. The contagious mite is scabies and it is VERY itchy. If he isn't scratching it may not be mange from scabies. There is another mite called demodex that is non-contagious. Your other dogs can not get it from him. I would check him for fleas. His hair loss could also be from a poor diet and he just needs more time with a good diet. He could also have allergies or a skin infection. The other skin condition he could have that is contagious would be ring worm (fungus). I recommend taking him to the Vet this week to rule out contagious skin diseases and get him started on proper medications! Good luck!
