My puppy has a rash after being shaved. What's the best treatment?

Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Oatmeal shampoo can provide some temporary relief so it can be used. Hello. I am so sorry for your worries with Nero. The best thing for something like this is to bathe him in an oatmeal based shampoo (either one for people, like Aveeno, or one labeled for dogs) using COOL water. Let him soak for about 10 minutes & repeat daily as necessary. You do not want to use any topical creams or ointments as this may leave him a greasy mess. Hopefully, this will help his skin greatly. Based on the photos you have provided, I suspect that Champ may have a bacterial skin infection. I would recommend the following products, which can be found online quite easily. It can be a reaction to the sprays or shampoos they use or it could have been there and the clippers irritated it and made it a little worse. It does appear to be a little infection from the skin peeling back around the edges. It is best to get Ollie treated by a vet but nothing that is am emergency

It is possible that he had a reaction to the shampoo and conditioner that were used, or may have experienced some damage to the hair follicles that can result in skin irritation or infection.
