My dog shook, eyes bulged. Was it an anxiety attack or a seizure?

That sounds like Jb had a seizure. I would recommend taking him in. I like to do blood work including checking thyroid levels. I’m looking for treatable things. He also needs a thorough neurological exam to see if there are any deficits. I don’t usually place on anti-seizure medication for one seizure. I do recommend keeping a seizure log- keeping track of what they were doing, how long it lasted.. etc I have been using Royal Veterinary College App for my personal dog. It's possible that this could have been a type of a seizure, but there are other conditions and behaviors that could mimic a seizure. If this continues, or Bruno is otherwise acting abnormal, then it's best to have him examined by a vet as soon as possible. If Bruno is otherwise acting normal, then there is no need to rush him to the vet, but it would be good to have a vet evaluate him sometime in the near future, because the vet may detect an underlying problem (i.e. heart or neurologic disease) causing this convulsing. It would also be very helpful for you to record a video of him doing the convulsing behavior if you happen to see it again. I hope that helps and all is well with Bruno.

Hello, I am sorry to hear about Jill. Some of the behaviors you are describing do sound similar to a seizure. Seizures can have a spectrum of severity, meaning that not all pets will have paddling like motions of their limbs or other typical signs of a seizure. More subtle jerking and shaking can be consistent with a seizure. Additionally, pets who are having a seizure are not mentally appropriate, meaning that they do not respond to stimuli (name calling, clapping, etc) like normal dogs. Seizures can have many causes. In a younger dog like Jill one possible cause is low blood sugar. I would recommend having Jill evaluated by a veterinarian so that she can be examined and further diagnostics (such as bloodwork) can be considered. If you are able to I would recommend trying to take a video of one of Jill's episodes. Additionally, until she is evaluated by a veterinarian I would recommend keeping a log of when these events occur and how long they last. Jill should be seen by a veterinarian immediately if these events last longer than 5 minutes, she has multiple events within 24 hours, or she does not normalize between events. From what your are describing it seems to be a seizure and I would recommend to have Pommerian checked by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Make sure she didn't ingest anything she shouldn't have (i.e. human medication, herbicide, detergents,...), if you find something suspicious bring it with you so the vet can check it. If she isn't vaccinated, rabies is also a major concern especially for your health so please be careful and and take her straight to your vet.

Oh my. Poor guy. It sounds like JJ is having possible seizures. You will need to get him seen by your vet for baseline bloodwork to look for some possible causes for the seizures. If none are found with this first test, then an MRI or CT scan may be recommended. However, he likely will go on anti-seizure medication right away since he had multiple seizures within a 30 day time frame. Hopefully we can manage his seizures well with medication, but due to his age, there is unfortunately a higher risk for an underlying brain or spinal cord lesion as the cause. If he has another it is best to take him to your ER vet right away. However, if they don't reoccur, he may be able to wait until morning to be seen by your regular vet. Some dogs will have focal seizures known as 'chewing gum' seizures where the mouth will tremble or they will make chewing motions. Usually dogs will act a little disoriented after a seizure like this, but some dogs don't. If you think he may be having seizures you should see a veterinarian right away. It might be helpful to video an episode to show your vet. Of course it's possible that this is just a behavioral tic too, but it's better to be safe and have a veterinarian examine Mega to make sure.
