The biggest issue with herbal medications (which is what this supplement is) is a lack of controlled studies to prove that they work. Additionally, just like a man made medication, an herbal medication can also have side effects. Having said all of that, the specific product you refer to does contain Hawthorn which does have effects similar to sotolol. I don't know that its "better," or "safer" than sotolol because we just don't have the data to show that, whereas sotolol has been studied extensively regarding dosage, safety, efficacy, etc. In short, its reasonable to try this herbal medication but I would strongly advise that you do it under the care of a veterinarian who has been trained in herbal medicine. Since Sienna is still young, some of it may be a bit of jealousy or fear of missing out. I would recommend trying to make sure that she is ok without him, just in case there is a time when they would need to be seperated for a bit (illness or veterinary visit) that she is ok on her own. As she is fairly young, it would be much easier to prevent full blown seperation anxiety by working with her now. But I'm so glad that Sienna has had such a positve impact on your male dog's anxiety.

Hi and thanks for posting! Managing activity and stress level is very important with cardiac disease patients. Short leashed walks to go to the bathroom and around the block should be okay. I would try and minimize long walks and running. A harness that goes around the chest should be used to minimize pressure on the trachea which could exacerbate her condition. Minimizing stressful situations can be helpful as well. For example, if going to the vet's office is stressful and causes her to collapse, then you may want to consider having a house call visit instead which may be much less stressful for her. Stress can certainly worsen pre-existing diseases and I would recommend reducing stress as much as possible.
