Dogs like Lou can be prone to irritation on their lips due to the heavy jowls and moisture. You can try applying a very think layer of coconut oil on the area and rubbing it in well once to twice daily. The only issue is that he may lick it off! Hi there! Yes, puppies can get pimples, and that very well may be what this is. It looks like it's right in the location where his canine tooth rubs on his lip, and if this tooth is new, some irritation may be happening here. It could also be an insect bite, skin parasite, or a localized infection. If it doesn't clear up, gets worse, or appears to be causing Brody any discomfort, I suggest having a vet take a look at it. In the meantime, you can try keeping it clean with a dilute soap and water solution, but Brody may not like it! I wouldn't bother applying any topical ointments to it as he'll likely just lick it right off. Good luck, and I hope Brody's little lip irritation goes away soon!

I'm so glad Jasper is home! It's also possible (aside from a thermal burn) that redness is a chemical burn, scabies or an allergic reaction. At home you can wash the lesion with soap once and rinse well (don't wash his whole body, just the spot, try to keep soap out of his mouth and nose). Protect the area from licking or scratching and he may need to wear an elizabethan collar. Once it is dried, you can apply a dab of coconut oil once a day and rub it in well. If it doesn't start looking better within about a week or if it gets worse, have him examined by his veterinarian who may prescribe medications. Make sure that this is not from urine getting into that part of the skin and if it is, have him evaluated by a veterinarian. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!

Hello, and thank you for your question. Possible causes of Frankie's lip issue include a bacterial infection, fungal infection, parasites such as mites, or underlying allergies. Frenchies have deep skin folds on the face, which makes them predisposed to these types of skin issues. The location of the lesion makes it difficult to treat topically, so I would recommend taking Frankie to the vet to be assessed. They may recommend a skin scraping or cytology to rule out some of the above possibilities. At minimum, they can prescribe antibiotics if an infection is suspected, and anti-inflammatory medication to help reduce the redness and itchiness. A hypoallergenic diet trial may also be recommended. In the meantime, you can try gently cleansing the area with a wet puppy wipe. Try to keep him from rubbing or scratching at the face - an e-collar (cone) may be needed for this purpose. I hope this helps, and that Frankie feels better soon!

Poor guy! Your can try this: It won’t hurt him if he licks it off. However, if it’s not improving in 5 days or so, I would recommend that you schedule a recheck with your vet.
