Dog has runny nose, fever, fast breathing. Vet treatment didn't work.

As I was reading your description, I was suspecting Distemper as the cause. The signs of illness that you described are very typical for Distemper and a cough or fever is not necessary to make the diagnosis. Unfortunately, providing a second opinion is quite difficult without examining and doing some testing with Caeser. There are some tests available for diagnosing distemper, but the accuracy of the test varies. You can ask your vet about this test. Hi. It sounds like Mayor has an upper respiratory infection. These can be caused by viruses, bacterial, or fungal infections. There isn't anything unfortunately from home that would cure it or treat it. That would have to come from your veterinarian. This evening you can close a small bathroom door, turn on shower as hot as possible, get the room very steamy/humid, and place him in that bathroom with the steam for 10 min 2-3 times a day. This isn't treating the infection, but helps break up mucous to make him more comfortable. Good luck.

Hello. I assume that you were unable to hospitalize Ceaser, or do any advanced bloodwork past the heartworm test. Did your vet offer to do x-rays? Difficult breathing & sneezing blood is not a good combination of symptoms. This could be an indication of a lung problem ( bacterial, viral or fungal ) of something going on in his sinuses or nasal passages ( infection, inflammation, neoplasia or foreign body ). Try offering him warmed foods, such as FreshPet, or cooked hamburger & chicken. Besides water, try meat based low sodium broths & stocks. Your veterinarian has medications that might help his appetite such as mirtazapine & Entyce. Please consider hospitalization in the hopes that a more thorough work-up will uncover what is affecting Ceaser & then the proper therapies & treatments can be started to get him feeling better.
