My dog won't use pee pad after being sick. How to stop carpet accidents?

To keep this from occurring again it is recommended to give her Nutri-cal supplements every 4-6 hrs in between meals An illness like this can understandably set back a pet in their house training. So go back to your basics with her training. Taking her outside regularly (a puppy has to urinate for every month old they are plus one in hours, so a 4 month old puppy can hold their bladder for 4+1=5 hrs at a time), reward her when she goes outside, and learn to tune into her cues that she has to go. Also it is best to crate train her and keep her inside a crate (only big enough for her to turn around in to discourage her from eliminating in the crate) when you are not home to supervise her and also at night. She should be back to normal elimination soon enough. Also make sure that you are paying attention to how often she is urinating. If she is going more than once every hour then there is a good chance she has a UTI. Also the urine can have a foul odor to it. If this is the case then she needs antibiotics from your vet to clear up the infection, which should in turn decrease her urinary accidents in the home.

House training can be very frustrating. It is possible that Roxie is continuing to urinate and defecate in that one spot because there is still a smell there. Using an enzymatic cleaner such as Nature's Miracle will help to remove the odor-causing compounds and make it less likely that Roxie will use that spot to potty. It is also important that you block Roxy's access to this area for a while. When having problems house training I recommend that owners set a timer and take the dog out every hour during waking hours. Each time you go outside and Roxy pees or poops praise her lavishly with words or with a yummy treat. When you are not home confined her to a crate or small room. The crate should only be big enough for Roxy to stand up and turn around. A crate that is any bigger will allow room for Roxy to pee or poop and move away from it making it more likely that she will go to the bathroom in the crate. If you are still having house training issues even after implementing these suggestions I would recommend that you have Roxy seen by your veterinarian as she may have a medical condition.

Routine changes and stress can definitely cause regression in potty training. I would give Jack a few days (3-4) to settle back in and go back to a more puppy style routine of potty training (IE more frequent outings) to give him a chance to go outside and get back into the swing of things. If he still continues to have accidents, or you notice signs of illness such as bloody urine, attempting to potty a lot without producing much, changes in appetite, etc, bring him into your vet for an exam.

With sudden accidents, it is always best to schedule a vet checkup first to rule out any underlying issues such as infection, GI upset, neurological or muscular issues, etc. if she checks out healthy, it may be that something has startled or upset her, especially if this was the same time last year that she had accidents last, causing her to have accidents inside instead of going out. You may need to temporarily revert to a "puppy" style of potty training again, just to get her back into the routine of going outside until she is more comfortable with whatever caused the accidents to start. Using enzymatic cleaners on any accidents can help discourage her from going there again, and making sure to offer some exciting treats and praise when she does go outside may help speed up the process.

Go back to the basics and retrain her to the new schedule. Also, make it consistent. The same person lets her out every morning and feeds her at the same time everyday (even weekends). Go back to letting her out every couple of hours- it is easier to prevent an accident than to fix it. Lots of praise when she goes outside to potty. I am sorry to hear about Soska! It could be that she is feeling a little uncoordinated trying to maneuver into her normal spot. If you use fake grass or potty pads, just put down extra so that the potty area is bigger. You can also gently pick her up and set her where you want her to go -then praise her for going in the right place. Best of luck to you and Soska!

She may have a urinary infection that causes her to have accidents due to not being able to hold it as Kong. She may be doing this out of stress or anxiety or something has changed in her environment or routine. Depending on where she is in her heat cycle it may be due to marking and territorial problems influenced by hormones The best place to start is gave your vet check for infection with the urine then look in to getting her fixed. From there you can look into repeating house training or behavioral medicines
