My dog refuses dry food and is throwing up yellow foam. What's wrong?

Keep him on boiled rice and chicken for 2-3 days, it might still be related to the anesthesia he went through, if it doesn't resolve in 3 days, take him back to the vet to get it checked and treated.

I'm sorry to hear that Melow isn't eating well for you. It is normal for a puppy not to eat a lot the first day in a new home. It can be a stressful transition. However, it is abnormal for the lack of appetite to last several days. The vomiting is not normal either. Melow need to see a veterinarian. He is so young, I worry about him becoming dehydrated. Even if he is drinking some, it is likely less than if he was eating normally. He may require fecal testing and deworming or more aggressive care depending on his exam findings. Do your best to encourage him to eat and drink. You can add warm water to his dry kibble. Some dogs like canned food warmed up a bit as well. There are many reasons why Koko could be vomiting. It can range from parasites to Parvo. It’s impossible to know what the cause is without a detailed history, a physical exam and testing for parasites and viruses. Puppies don’t have the reserves that adults and they do dehydrate and can have problems with low blood sugar which can be fatal if not treated. I recommend to have Koko visit his veterinarian to be examined. Feeding Koko a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and boiled white plain rice can help to settle the tummy. Smaller, more frequent meals are also easier on the tummy. I hope he starts feeling better quickly! Please feel free to post any additional questions.

I'm sorry to hear Marley isn't feeling well. I would be worried about something stuck in his GI tract. I would also rule out GI parasites or other infections. I recommend taking Marley to the vet for an exam and possible X-rays. Good luck and kisses to Marley!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Kira! She is very cute! Vomiting can be caused by a sudden diet change. I would with hold food for 12 hours then start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice for 2 days. If he eats it well and doesn't vomit then put him back on the original food. If you really want him on this new food mix it with the old food and slowly transition him to the new diet. If he won't eat and continues to vomit he should see a Vet. If your pet has vomited this much in the past 45 minutes I would be very suspicious of a foreign body or a very intense dietary indiscretion (eating something he shouldn't have). I would recommend you start supportive care (like Famotiidne 05-1.0mg/kg every 12 hrs and a bland diet like Purina EN Gastrointestinal canned food OR boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese. However there is a big possibility that this could have been a toxicity and if any more symptoms start to arise (such as ataxia (staggering) or shaking, crying out) then I highly recommend you seek a personal veterinarian for a physical examination and further diagnostics. - Dr. H
