My dog has red color near his eyes. Is it a stain or an injury?

This just looks like an area of inflammation in the conjunctiva. It may have developed from something irritating in the eye. At this point it’s nothing to be overly concerned about. Please check it daily, it should improve and go away in a few days. If it starts to look worse then certainly a veterinary exam is indicated. It is possible but not likely. It can be local irritation or infection from a small wound or it may be a small growth that is causing irritation. Place an e-collar (cone) on her if she is scratching or rubbing. This may be enough to allow healing. If not, have Maggie examined by your veterinarian to diagnose infection or injury.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Shiro isn’t holding the eye closed or acting painful and there isn’t yellow-green discharge you can just monitor the eye. It could simply be allergies. If the eye is painful he sadly should be seen to make sure their isn’t a scratch, uveitis or glaucoma. I hope this help and I hope you have a good holiday!

I think that he looks normal. The red part in the eye is the third eyelid that is raised up just a bit. That pink color to the third eyelid and his gums is normal. If the third eyelid becomes more raised you should have your vet examine the eye.

Hi and thanks for your request. If there are no other signs combined with these discolouration then they seem a normal (de-)pigmentation of the skin which can change with time. Nothing to be worried about. The pic is compatible with a comfortable, normal eye and eyelids as far as I can see.

It's a bit difficult to tell from the picture, but it does not look like anything serious. It's likely just a spot that got bumped or irritated by something. These usually go away within a day or two. If all the white part was red and there was excessive tears, then I would be more concerned that something is continually irritating the eye and would recommend a visit to the vet for treatment. If she is otherwise appearing normal, then I think it's fine to wait a couple of days and see if this resolves on its own. I hope that helps and all is well with Millie.

I am so sorry to hear that Moose is experiencing these problems with his eye. Thank you for providing an excellent picture, it seems swollen red and has discharge. Because of the sudden nature of the presentation, I would be concerned that Moose has suffered a corneal ulceration or has a foreign body lodged in his eye lid. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Moose to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Mosoe to scratch or rub his eye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. Because eye concerns with dogs, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly, I would have him examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments.
