My puppy has a red, pussing leg patch with dry skin and hair loss.

This looks like an area of skin infection. The smaller two bumps are pustules and the larger area is a pustule that has ruptured. Sometimes, if confined to a small area, these can be treated with topical antibacterial medication. If, however, it is more widespread your dog may need oral antibiotics. I hope this helps. It looks like your dog has a skin infection so he should be examined and treated by a vet. He, likely, needs an oral antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory that your vet can prescribe. If the meantime, you can bathe him with a medicated shampoo, like Douxo Chlorhexidine. You could also spray the lesion with Vetericyn wound and skin care spray.

Hello. It is very difficult to see, but it LOOKS like the mother dog may have gotten a little rough with this puppy & caused a skin injury. I would pick up some antibacterial wash like Hibiclens ( available at all pharmacies ) & gently clean the area twice daily. Rinse & dry the area thoroughly. I would not put anything else on the puppy as Mom will just lick it off. As long as the pup seems to be eating well, then I would see how this goes for a few days. Treatment will greatly depend on the cause, however that looks like a hot spot. It should be seen by your vet, so they can clean it and provide you with some antibiotics and pain meds as needed. Until you can get to your vet, placing an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Hector to stop him from licking and worsening it, and keeping the area clean and dry can help, however if it continues to worsen it needs to be seen right away.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Based on the photos you provided, I suspect what you are seeing could be a hot spot from Willow chewing at herself. This could also be a skin infection. I would recommend using a product called Sentry Wound Ointment from PetCo and apply to the area until resolved. If there is no improvement or the skin condition worsens I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Poor guy. You can clean this area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water for now. This will help reduce some of the bacteria and help with some of the irritation/redness. I would not recommend any topical ointments on this area however. However, organic honey can be placed in small amounts on wounds like this However, if there is pus as you say, the infection is dep under the skin and requires oral antibiotics to treat effectively. Therefore, it is best to schedule an appt with your vet soon for further care/treatment. I hope that your fur baby Chicku is able to resolve this deep skin infection soon. Best wishes and take care.

The look like cuts or abrasions. I would look carefully around the house and yard to see if there is anything that Pickles may have run through or gotten tangled in to cause this type of wound. In the first picture, there may be damage deeper than just skin level, and I would recommend that this one be checked out by a vet. You can continue to use the Neosporin and prevent licking, but no need to continue using peroxide. He should definitely be examined by a vet if there is a creamy discharge, discharge with a foul odor, swelling around the wound, or if Pickles develops any other abnormal symptoms.
