My dog has red bumps on her back legs. What should I do about them?

These are probably pustules from a minor skin infection. Since she is not spayed, she may continue to get these due to underlying increase of hormones. If she is not a breeding bitch you should have her spayed which will hopefully stop them from recurring. It looks like she could have a skin infection and/or an allergic dermatitis. You could clean the area with a wound wash and see if it continues to improve. Otherwise, she should be examined by a vet for treatment. She may need an antibiotic, antihistamine, or a corticosteroid to help treat.

Benji may have a mild skin infection. I recommend bathing him weekly with a medicated shampoo. Usually this will resolve in a few weeks without any other treatment. If they get worse then I would bring him in for an exam. They may prescribe antibiotics or do a skin scraping to get a diagnosis. Skin infections are more common during the hot summer months. Hello, and thank you for your question. The photos look like raised bumps, making me think about insect bites. Other possibilities include bacterial infection or fungal infection. I would try gently bathing the area with a gentle aloe and oatmeal based shampoo. Alternatively you could try applying a bit of pure aloe vera gel to the spots to help relieve discomfort. If they are insect bites, they may improve with time. If the skin does not improve within the next 24 hours, I would suggest taking Simba to the vet. They can perform tests such as a skin scraping, skin cytology or fungal culture to help determine the cause of the lesions. At minimum, they can provide medications to reduce itching, and antibiotics if an infection is suspected. If Simba is licking or scratching the area, I would also put an e-collar (cone) on his head, and a t-shirt in his body, to prevent him from licking and scratching and causing further trauma to his skin.
