My puppy has red belly rashes. Can bathing prevent them? How often?

Updated on September 23, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 24 days old | 45 lbs

My puppy is recently developing red rashes in her belly area which are healing on the application of an antiseptic cream. Will a bath help to prevent the rashes? If yes, then how often how I bathe her?

Hello. Many puppies are susceptible to mild skin infection, & they usually will outgrow this. Bathing twice a week in any mild shampoo will definitely help by decreasing the bacterial numbers on the skin. Make sure you use cool water & rinse all soap off thoroughly.
