Is the rattlesnake vaccine effective and safe for my small puppy?

There is a rattlesnake venom vaccine that is on the market, but there is not concrete research to show hat the vaccine works and many veterinarians do not recommend the vaccine. At best, the vaccine might lessen the 'severity' of a bite but immediate veterinary care would still be recommended. Some veterinarians do recommend training clinics where dogs are conditioned to avoid rattlesnakes - you could ask your veterinarian if rattlesnake avoidance training is available in your area.

I would recommend you check in with your veterinarian as they know exactly where they put the vaccine and how expected or not expected this is. They may for example recommend anti-inflammatory medications or possibly sampling that lesion to make sure it is not something else such as an infection or growth that needs to be treated. Hi. It ,osteoporosis likely is an inflammatory response, and now may be possibly infected. I recommend placing ice on it for 5-7 min a few times over the evening. Call your veterinarian in the morning. I recommend asking your veterinarian to premedicate with benadryl before the next vaccine

Yes, the rabies vaccine is very safe, and side effects are very rare. It's more than likely you won't see any side effects at all, but I will put a link below on what to expect after vaccination. The chances Daisy will die from it are extremely remote, but I can 100% guarantee she would die if she came down with rabies. Most Petco/Vetco clinics offer the Rattlesnake vaccine. It is priced at $39 per injection. You should call ahead to confirm before you go though. Costs for dental cleanings will vary depending on geographic location, size of the dog and severity of dental disease, if any. You can request an estimate for a complete dental prophylaxis. Most clinics will provide one as a matter of hospital policy.

No, Princess should not be dangerous to anyone if she bites or licks them - it's very normal for puppies to do this :) Rabies is extremely rare in pet dogs, and would be virtually unheard-of in a puppy this age - it can only be transmitted through the bite of an infected wild animal, so it's unlikely that she would have had any possibility of exposure at the age of two months. Dogs can get their rabies vaccine anytime after 12 weeks of age. So she isn't quite old enough yet, but your veterinarian can vaccinate her in another month or so. I do not recommend giving 5 in 1 vaccines on your own, because in my experience, vaccines purchased over the counter and given by owners are often not effective. It's much better to have your veterinarian give the vaccine, to make sure it's guaranteed to work.

For small dogs, I generally do recommend to separate vaccines by a few weeks. This will decrease the chances of a vaccine reaction. You can also give the pups diphenhydramine prior to the vaccines to further decrease reaction rates. Definitely discuss these options with your veterinarian. Possible side effects of vaccines are vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling, lethargy and collapse. If your pups exhibit any of these afterwards, be sure to have them seen immediately. The vast majority of pets are fine with vaccines however and reactions are rare. Most vets vaccinate based up risks associated with life style and the diseases found in your area. I recommend to have a conversation about risk factors for your pups but I suspect they are present if your vet is recommending these vaccines. Clear communication however is always best.
