My 8-week-old pit bull puppy's feet look swollen. Is this normal?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! After looking at the pictures, I don't believe her paws look swollen. One key thing you will see with swollen paws is the spreading apart of the toes from the swelling. I don't see that here with her. I think like you said the paws just look different now since she was groomed. If you can touch the toes together with little effort, no swelling is present in the paws. Good luck with Snowball.

Oh no, that's not good! It's not normal that Puppy has a lot of swelling on the side of her neck, and she could have injured herself causing the swelling. There could be damage to the internal structure of her neck, and she should be evaluated by a vet immediately. I would take Puppy, her littermates, and her mother into an ER vet clinic or find a vet on call to see them now.

This looks like either a skin infection or an allergy. It could be from the milk. Dogs are actually lactose intolerant and you should not be feeding milk past the weaning stage (8 weeks of age). I suggest you stop giving milk. You can try to soak his feet in dilute Betadine solution (1 part Betadine to 10 parts water) for 5 minutes 2-3 times per day. If it doesn't look better after a week then he should see a vet. You should be able to buy Betadine at any pharmacy.

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. Hi there. So sorry that Fire is having this issue. It is difficult to tell what is going on from the photo. I see the swelling and redness for sure. It could be anything from a nail bed infection, to a foreign body (like a grass awn that has migrated under the skin) which is very common between the toes of dogs, or it could be the start of a cancer tumor. My recommendation is to get him to the vet for an exam so the proper diagnosis can be made. That way treatment can be instituted that will work. In the meantime you can soak the foot in Epsom salts to see if that will help reduce the swelling (about 10 minutes twice a day). Hope this helps. If you have more questions please post again! Yes, that is fairly normal for a punch biopsy. The opening is usually quite small, but it's a deep wound, so it tends to bleed a lot; especially in certain areas of the body and with certain lesions. I would not be worried right now. Keep it covered and the bleeding will stop soon. The bleeding will not be enough to cause any major damage, so no worries about that. The swelling should go down in the next 2-3 days. If it's past three days and it's still swelling, then it would be worth a recheck by your veterinarian.
