How many puppies can I legally keep if I live in the country?

Hello. 8 puppies is a pretty good litter. If Mom seems content caring for her newborns, then I would not be too concerned. It is never a bad idea to have everyone checked in the next couple of days, but there is no hurry to do so as long as puppies are nursing & Louie is eating well. I should mention that with this many puppies, she should be on a puppy food for the extra calories, but no other supplements unless your vet recommends them. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and congratulations on your new puppy! I recommend having Abby seen by a vet - they can administer Abby's vaccines, deworm her if necessary, recommend a good quality puppy food, and flea/tick/heartworm prevention. At her young age, I recommend keeping Abby somewhat confined to an area of the house where she cannot get into trouble/eat things she shouldn't. She should also not go outside before she is fully vaccinated. I hope this helps and wish you luck with your new puppy!

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Wow, a three week old kitten is very young to be selling! Kittens should really be with their mom receiving their mom's milk until they are about 8 weeks old. You may need to check with your municipality or local animal control to determine any legal issues there are or may be. In addition, you may want to look for kittens on more reputable sources such as your local animal shelter or rescue organizations near you. I hope this helps and best of luck to you!

Hello. I do not know if it is illegal to take a puppy away from its mother at 6 weeks of age, but it is a very common practice. By 6 weeks, the puppies are large enough to eat on their own, & may actually be tearing up the mother's breasts as they aggressively nurse. Now, puppies do seem to develop better social skills if they are left with their siblings until they are 8-12 weeks, but this does not mean your pup will have any problems. Do not feel bad. I am sure she will develop into a great dog, especially since you are already so concerned about her welfare. Do not listen to people on social media. Only the loudest & nastiest comments will come through. Care for her as any puppy, have your vet check her out as soon as possible to make sure she is healthy & parasite free, & obtain vaccinations as your veterinarian recommends. You will do great. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

It sounds like you definitely have your hands full! :) Deciding how many dogs you want to have (and are able to care for) at one time is a very personal decision - so only you can determine if this is a good choice for you and your family. But, I can tell you that it would be **extremely** difficult to do a good job of training six puppies at once - one puppy is plenty for most owners! I would never consider keeping an entire litter of pups personally, because I know there is no way that I could give this many puppies enough personal, one-on-one time and attention to help them thrive. If you feel this way also, I would suggest talking to your fiance about finding homes for some of the puppies sooner rather than later, as they will only become more difficult to place as they get older - especially if they are poorly socialized and untrained.

Thank you for using PetCoach they can be very difficult to train even 32 puppies at a time, three puppies and a special-needs puppy will require an extreme amount of time and discipline on your part. It is not impossible, but will take a lot of work. Deaf dogs require very specific training for their safety and the safety of people who interact with them. This website can give you some more info. http://www.deafdogs.org/training/ Also remember expenses for food and veterinary care will be doubled or tripled depending on the number of pets you keep. Siblings will meet with each other if not fixed or meet back with their parents if everyone remains in tact. So it is strongly advised to spay and neuter related dogs. Even if fixed having more than two dogs can result in territorial or resource fighting. I would strongly recommend consulting with a trainer or behaviorist before keeping 3 pups to get a better idea of what you need to expect. Hi and thanks for your post. The puppy needs to be with its mother until 8 weeks of age so perhaps this is why the puppy is still with the mother at this time. I'm not sure I follow the entire story but if the dog was paid for by you and you have documentation to state the payment and documentation to state you are now the legal owner, you may inquire as to when you may pick up the puppy. This is usually when the puppy is 8 weeks of age. If you have the dog warden's contact, you may try contacting them if the individual you bought the puppy from cannot be reached. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I hope you are able to resolve the situation!
