My 8-week-old boxer puppy is grunting and has blood in his urine. Why?

*i accidentally hit send befor I was finished with my response! Sorry* I would recommend taking Marley, and a sample of his urine in to the vet to be checked out. If he does have a urinsry tract infection he will need to be on antibiotics for at least a couple of weeks. Marley may have something going on that is less common as well such as a prostate infection or a specific type of blood disorder that can change the urine color called immune mediated hemolytic anemia. Urinating blood can indicating a bladder infection or something potentially life threatening like a clotting disorder. The fact that he is also committing indicates systemic illness. The veterinarian will perform a physical exam and then recommend diagnostics such as urinalysis bloodwork or possibly radiographs (xrays). Good luck and I hope he’s better soon.

It can be related to gastrointestinal infection, worms, low platelet count, anal gland problems, intoxication, mass or ulcer in the intestines and more. Reasons for blood in the stool include colitis, intestinal parasites and dietary indiscretion and some possible reasons of blood in the urine include urinary tract infections, urinary stones and even tumors. Hello, and thank you for your question. Blood in the urine can be a sign of a urinary tract infection, urinary crystals, bladder stones, prostate infection, or kidney disease, among other things. I would suggest having Bronx checked out by a vet if the bloody urine continues over the next 24 hours. The vet will recommend a urine sample to check for infection, crystals, protein loss, etc. They may also check his prostate via a rectal exam. In the meantime, I would encourage Bronx to drink more water and take him out to pee a bit more often to flush out any potential bacteria or crystals in his urinary tract. Hello. This could be a result of a serious bladder infection, prostatitis, urinary bladder stones, a bleeding polyp/mass or trauma. This definitely warrants a trip to your veterinarian ASAP. It absolutely could be a bladder infection, and although they tend to be a bit unusual in puppies they can happen. Testing is relatively straightforward including typically a urinalysis will make the diagnosis but often the vet will recommend a urine culture to ensure that the appropriate antibiotic is being used. At 3 months of age I would also consider some imaging (x-rays with contrast or ultrasound) to rule out congenital (present from birth) anatomical issues that could be contributing to urinary issues.
