Can a dog get pregnant from a very short mating without a tie?

Unless there is a very large difference in size between your male dog and your female dog with the female being very small, there should be no problem if she gets pregnant. However, if you do not want puppies nor want to breed her later on I suggest you discuss spaying with your vet. There are so many puppies out there needing a new home, there is not point in adding to that. Being pregnant now will basically cut short her puppy time as well.

They normally stay joined for several minutes. Once the swelling from the male decrease they will part. There is s likely chance she may be pregnant from this but never a guarantee. The best recommendations are to breed a female after 18 months of age to allow full maturity. if she is younger than a year then she may need a c section to help with delivery. When she comes out of heat in 2 weeks then you can schedule to have her spayed before anything develops

It all depends on whether the male dog ejaculated or not. You can run a pregnancy test and/or an ultrasound at 28 days or have an X-ray done at day 50. Write down the date when they mated. It is very unlikely they mated in that time frame if the male was not still tied (mounting) the female when you came back in the house. If you do not want them breeding then I would definitely have them spayed/neutered though because it is bound to happen soon. Good luck with your pups! Love the name Olive!

There is always a possibility if the two were tied and both are not fixed. If you suspect your dog may be pregnant, bringing her into the vet to confirm the pregnancy is best. Having your dog spayed is also a good idea if you don't wish to have puppies.
