My dog bites when playing. Will she harm our new German Shepherd?

Your worry is very valid! It is best to make sure the two are only playing together when you can directly supervise them and that puppy and your older dog are separated when you are away so that an accident can't happen - even the most well intentioned of a dog can cause an injury! If the puppy starts playing too rough, a "time out" of a few minutes for everyone to calm down can also help and teaches your puppy that too rough of play is frowned upon. Diverting with treats and toys is also a great way, so keep that up.

Yes, shepherds are a very dominant breed. You need to get this behavior under control before she gets much older. Yes, if you are careful and keep them separated and monitor his behavior closely. Most dogs will adjust with training. Marco could become aggressive to the puppy if you are giving it too much attention and ignoring him. I also recommend neutering all of the dogs to prevent aggression. Aggression is particularly common when they reach sexual maturity as Marco has. It would be best if the puppy bonds to another household member and not you to prevent jealousy. If she gets along with other dogs then I think an adult dog would be fine. But if she is a threatened by bigger dogs she may do better starting with a puppy. I would allow them to sniff esch other through a barrier like a crate or a baby gate. I would only allow them to be with each other under supervision for awhile until you know that they will be okay together. I would not feed them, give them any bones, or any any toys that she may be territorial over! Most dogs do great! Good luck!

You are likely describing teething which is basically a normal type of behavior when puppies are growing up and it is secondary to mouth discomfort as teeth are growing. I recommend that you get Pechi teething type toys which you can get at your local pet store or online. Anytime that she tries to nibble at you, you say no and give her the toy. It can take a while for dogs to get used to new companions. As long as they are still playing together and not hurting one another I would not be too worried about this behavior. It is normal for puppies to be a nuisance to older dogs, as they try to mimic the rough-and-tumble play they had with their littermates. It is also normal for the older dog to say "enough is enough . . . leave me alone!" There shouldn't be a problem, and GSDs can certainly get along with small dogs. If you see any signs of true aggression, as opposed to the mock-fighting of play, then it is time to worry. Whether Kal seems aggressive or not, once he is three-four months old, enroll him in a good basic obedience class, so that you can learn to handle him (and he can learn to do as he's told) before he gets too big.
