My dog has a pink ring on her armpit. What could it be? Is it serious?

Hello. This could just be a cyst or small tumor such as a histiocytoma. At this point, it does not look worrisome, so just monitor for any changes in size &/or shape. That looks like an insect bite that may be infected for it to have a focal light spot in the center. If she seems fine otherwise you can opt to keep an eye on it and make sure it continues to improve. If it does get bigger, if she becomes lame, acts sick, refuses to eat or starts vomiting or has diarrhea, get her in to see your vet right away as there may be something more serious going on.

I recommend that you continue to monitor Milo for now. If this lesion fails to improve on its own or it worsens have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. Given his young age, this could just be a small abscess or site of infection. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It could be a wound from trauma, tick/insect bite, or a histiocytoma. Histiocytoma’s are benign growths on young dogs that are pink raised button like masses that can ulcerate. They tend to form more often on the limbs. They also tend to go away on their own in a few months. You can clean it and apply an antibiotic cream and prevent licking up see if it resolves. It it persists or grows I’d have your vet look at it. Thank you for the picture of Chipper's lesion. It appears to be a black fly bite. These lesions from the bite look bad, but typically they do not bother the pet. You don't need to do anything to treat it, these usually go away on their own over time. That being said, if this doesn't improve over the next week, it looks worse, or he's constantly itching it, then he will need to see a vet. I hope this helps!

Hello, my name is Dr. Shines and I am happy to help. Dogs can get all kinds of skin masses as well as things like pimples and ingrown hairs. Most of these lesions will be benign but a few will be cancerous. Unfortunately, you can't always tell from looks alone. If the bump doesn't seem to hurt or bother Bentley, you might try applying a warm (not hot) compress every couple hours for 10 minutes. If this is an ingrown hair or pimple, this might help it to come to a head. If it seems to bother him, have him examined. If the bump is still there in 2 weeks, I'd go ahead and have Bentley examined. There's one type of skin cancer called a Mast Cell Tumor and they commonly look red/pink, hairless and raised.
