My pug has pink discoloration on his mouth near his nose. What is it?

It’s possible that this is a localized skin infection with some deeper swelling and involvement. That would be called a pyoderma and these lesions can be superficial or even a little deeper. This could be a primary skin problem or secondary to trauma, abrasion, allergies, exposure to ectoparasites (fleas/ticks), or even a tumor. I would advise anything lasting more than a few days to a week and not getting better, would need an exam by your veterinarian to assess. Hopefully this resolves over the next few days but if it’s not getting smaller/better, I would advise Tiger seeing your veterinarian. Thank you and good luck!

Hi there. It looks like your dog either has an abrasion or infection causing the pink area on her face. Dogs can get blocked hair follicles that create this appearance, or she may have scraped it on something. If she'll tolerate vitamin E oil rubbed on it, this can help. It is very common for pugs to get buildup in the creases on the face. If you notice redness, discharge, a foul odor or he paws at his face, I would recommend being seen by a veterinarian. Occasionally they can get an infection in those folds and require treatment with antibiotics. Otherwise, it is a good idea to keep these areas clean. You can use a warm wash cloth or a baby wipe and then dry them out well after cleaning.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. It is not an emergency but it may possibly get worse during the next 24-48hours, especially if he keeps scratching. Since she does not seem bothered by it I would not do anything. Just keep an eye on that spot and if it doesn't go away or gets worse then have your vet check her out.

This could be from an injury. Clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap, and keep the wound clean and dry. Monitor it daily for signs of infection, including redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, and pus. If you see any signs of infection, have Billy seen by a vet.
