My dog has a pink bump on his chin. Could it be an abscess or cyst?

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning. Since this is obviously bothering your dog (it looks like Bentley is licking it), I would have this examined very soon.

It could also be an enlarged lymph node, a benign tumor, or a malignant tumor. This is definitely something that needs to be checked out by a vet. It looks very swollen and it likely bothers her. The vet will be the one to diagnose what is causing the bump and the best treatment for it. I would take her into the vet first thing Monday morning. Tonight, I'd recommend feeding some canned food to her just in case it is dental problem and it hurts for her to chew dry food. You could also soak her dry food in warm water to soften it up. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options with you. Depending on how it feels that could be something benign such as a fluid filled cyst or an abscess (pocket of infection and pus), or it could be something more aggressive such as cancer. The only way to tell is by taking a sample of it and looking at the cells under the microscope. If it's a cyst or an abscess, your veterinarian will be able to tell most likely without needing to look at the cells. I would recommend having the lump evaluated by your veterinarian.
