My dog's penis is inflamed. What can I give him or spray on it?

Poor guy. Scruffy has likely caused some trauma to his penis, leading to inflammation and this can lead to the penis getting stuck outside the sheath, strangulation of the penis, and even infection. I am unsure exactly how the penis currently looks, but the treatment is dependent on its current condition. If it is stuck outside the sheath then the vet needs to treat this by doing a sugar pack on the penis, or similar method to reduce the inflammation enough to replace the penis back inside the sheath. Also KY jelly is often used to facilitate this. If infection is present then oral antibiotics along with a copious sterile flush (i.e. chlorhexidine solution 3% diluted) of the penis is needed. Pet friendly NSAIDS (i.e. Meloxicam, Rimadyl) are also often need to reduce inflammation and provide comfort.

Green discharge is an normal occurrence in unneutered dogs, but inflammation on the tip of the penis is not. it could be an infection, putting a cream locally is not likely to help, you will need to take him to the vet as he may need an antibiotic course or anti inflammatories.

Hello, sorry to hear about Milo. It looks like he is having a degree of balanoposthitis or inflammation of the foreskin of his penis. This can be caused by bacterial infections and rarely malignant tumors (only seen here in the united states if traveling). He may need antibiotics to treat his infection. The area is very sensitive, therefore avoid handling it excessively. Have your veterinarian take a look at the area and decide wether Milo needs any medications. Hope this helps and best of luck.

I would suggest applying Zymox topical ointment or malacetic conditioning spray to the area to help relieve any irritation and prevent infection. If the area begins to ooze or become swollen / more red, I would have a veterinarian examine the area to see if oral antibiotic therapy is needed. If Ches has been licking or chewing the area, I would purchase a plastic cone to place around his neck so that he cannot access the irritated area as this will make things worse. I hope this helps! Chico could have a urethral prolapse, an infection or some type of trauma to that area. He needs to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Without treatment that tissue could become dead/necrotic, he could have trouble urinating which leads to other issues like kidney failure as well as long term damage like scarring. Do not give him any human medications as it can be toxic to dogs. Keep him from licking at the area and remove and discharge with a warm, moist, clean cloth.

Ouch, poor guy! Plain Vaseline is better than a medication like entederm, so I’d use that to see if it helps him slide back in. However, that looks frighteningly swollen, and if it doesn’t go back in, he does need to go in to the vet. If that’s stuck out and continues to swell, the blood supply to the tip will become compromised. Sprinkling a generous amount of raw plain sugar on the exposed tip may help bring the swelling down. But, if you’re not having luck in the next hour or so, I recommend bringing him in. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Yes, I would recommend having him examine by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. It is hard to say for sure from the blurry photo but it appears as though the tip of the penis is stuck out of the prepuce. It looks as though Oliver has paraphimosis (inability to completely retract the penis into the prepuce) and this can be caused by a number of things.
