My Shih Tzu has a bulge under his penis, breathing fast, and hiding.

It looks as though Spencer's abdomen is quite distended in the region of his bladder. The fact that he's urinating very little, if at all, makes me concerned that he could have a urinary obstruction that is preventing him from emptying his bladder. If his bladder is truly this full, there is a risk that it could rupture, which would be life-threatening. I'm glad to hear that he's still eating and sleeping okay, but with his urinary changes and abdominal distention, I do think there is cause for concern. As a result, I'd recommend taking him to your vet right away or an ER if your vet is unable to see him within the next few hours. I hope that everything goes well!

All these symptoms point to a possible heart problem. I would be very concerned here and would highly recommend taking Rocco in to your local vet right away for a proper examination. If the abdomen is indeed bloated and it isn't due to gas, then the vet will likely want to run some radiographs (x-rays) of your pet to determine what is making the abdomen enlarged and how to best treat it. Poor guy, he is very young to have heart problems, so I sure hope this is just gas coupled with something like an upper respiratory infection. Both very treatable offenses.

If an infection is present, he may need surgery to treat the wound. He would also be sent home with medications such as antibiotics and pain medications. Poor Buster. This could be several different things and possible multiple different things. The difficulty breathing could be from heart disease, pneumonia and even cancer. The rigid activity concerns me that he may have had a seizure which could have be from not getting enough oxygen or something else. I doubt this has anything to do with his eye since that was so long ago but I cannot say for sure since i do not know his full medical history. I would Have your vet take a look at him as soon as possible. They will be able to determine the cause and get him on meds to help him feel better before he gets worse. I hope this helps!

Although a picture of it would help to give you a more specific answer, this lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Brodie appears to have an abdominal hernia or some kind of mass. As a hernia is a possibility and he is uncomfortable, he needs to be seen by a veterinarian tonight on an emergent basis to assess and address the source of discomfort. If it is a hernia, intestines can get trapped in it and effectively cause an obstruction which would need immediate surgery to minimize risk of the intestines losing blood flow and dying off. Even if it is not a hernia, his discomfort alone is concerning enough to have him seen to help him be more comfortable. Usually, x-rays and/or ultrasound are needed to assess things like this, then further diagnostics and a treatment plan can be made. I hope this helps and that Brodie gets better soon!

Thank you for your question. If you have access to a veterinarian, I would go there now. It is a little difficult to tell from the picture, but this looks like it could possibly be a vaginal prolapse, meaning some of the tissue from inside the vagina has come out. The sooner this gets addressed the better the chance of recovery. Once it stays out, it can swell and get harder to put back inside. I hope Midge can get help soon!
