Why is my 6-month dog peeing uncontrollably with green discharge?

A certain amount of discharge, especially in intact male dogs, may be normal. This discharge is known as smegma. If there is an increased amount or if you notice a foul odor, excessive licking and difficulty urinating, then it may be that he has an infection either in the [urinary tract](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/utis-in-dogs) or under the prepuce. Take him to your regular vet when they open for an examination and diagnosis. They will be able to provide appropriate pain relief and treatment.

I am not sure what this area truly looks like. I would try picking hip up with back against your stomach and chest and having someone else snap the photo of his genital area. If there is green discharge and pain then he likely has an infection. Hydrogen peroxide should be stopped immediately, because in pets this can actually cause the normal cells to die off on the skin. You can try using Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water or Chlorhexidine 3% diluted with water to antiseptically cleanse the area. Soaking him in a warm water Epsom salt bath for 5-10 minutes can also help alleviate some irritation and inflammation. I would also visit your local pet store and purchase an e-collar to place on him so that he can't continue licking the area and causing further irritation and pain. Hopefully this will help maintain him until he is seen by your vet on Monday. Poor guy. I wish you all the best and hopefully the vet can clean the area well, flush out any debris or foreign material that may be lodged in the penile sheath, and then place him on medications (i.e. antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications) to help resolve this. If your dog was hit by a car it is best to have him evaluated by a vet. He could have internal injuries that you don't see. The green discharge from the prepuce/penis is normal in an unneutered male dog.

There is a normal yellow/green mucoid discharge (called smegma) that male dogs have to coat the penis inside the prepuce. There could also be an infection, like a bladder infection, but typically they have signs of increased thirst, frequent urination, and producing small amounts of urine at a time. To be sure, I recommend taking him to a vet for an exam and they can check the urine. If he isn't showing the other signs, I am suspicious this is the normal discharge male dogs have. That does not seem normal. It’s possible that he has irritation in the bladder, prostate or the prepuce. Since he can’t talk and tell you if there is something uncomfortable, I recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian. The doctor will likely check the prepuce, the bladder and also the prostate for any signs of abnormality or infection. If you can record the behavior, this would help as well to show the doctor. Some dogs can have a little discharge from the prepuce that looks like this and it nothing to be concerned about. If Nugget is urinating frequently or straining to urinate it could be a sign of a urinary tract infection. Sometimes foreign material can become lodged in the prepuce (the skin that surrounds the penis) and can cause irritation. If there is a lot of discharge, if Nugget is continuously licking his prepuce, or if you see any urinary changes as noted above I'd recommend seeing your vet.

Yes, it is definitely worth a trip to the vet. Even if she did not previously have an infection, Shiloh may be dealing with one now. Infections of the uterus (called pyometra) can sometimes present this way, and they can be deadly if not treated. She may also have a vaginitis or urinary tract infection that needs treatment.
