Why is my dog in pain and whining after eating different foods?

Just wondering if any blood work was done and if not I would advise getting some done to evaluate his overall health and internal organ function. Possibilities include intestinal parasites (roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, giardia, coccidia, etc), dietary indiscretion (eating things dogs are not supposed to eat), dietary/nutritional problem, infection/inflammation, foreign body ingestion, toxin exposure, other gastrointestinal diseases, disease in organs outside of the gastrointestinal tract (pancreatitis, kidney/liver disease, etc), among many other causes. The fact that he won't eat is significant since he will get weak and possibly dehydrated also if he is not drinking fluids. Your vet can reevaluate him and see if anything has changed on physical exam and then propose other tests if needed. Good luck with Hercules. I hope he feels better soon.

I would recommend transitioning her to a different food and consider adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora. I would try 2-3 different foods and see if that makes a difference. If there is no improvement, then I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hi there. I suggest you use a probiotic for Bentley. Fortiflora is my favorite but you can use any probiotic made for dogs (no human products or dairy). I would give it daily for one month to see if there are any changes. The probiotic adds "good bacteria" to his intestinal tract that may quiet the gas. So, I suggest you speak to your vet about deworming him. Finally, diet recommendations for dogs with gas is a diet that is highly digestible with low fibre and low fat content. Poor guy. It sounds very plausible that he could either have severe gastritis (inflammation of his stomach) from the recent switch in food, or he has something else entirely going on internally that is the source of his pain. Many organs are in the belly area, so the pain could be from anything. A good physical exam is needed first to isolate where the pain is coming from, and then he needs to get on medications to help mange his hip dysplasia a bit better, besides just the glucosamine. Glucosamine is a good 1st line of treatment for joint problems because it is so readily available, but there are much stronger medications your vet can get Wretch on to help manage his condition better. Heavy breathing after a walk is highly suggestive of joint pain, so its best to visit your vet to get him on something that is going to be more effective for his condition. For now, its best to keep Wretch's activity level light so that he doesn't over exert himself, leading to more injuries and pain. This could also be behavioral to indicate that he would like to eat more. This may self resolve. This is not uncommon following new and rich foods and generally will settle down within 3-5days. A probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora alongside a bland diet may help rebalance the gut and monitor closely for any persistent vomiting which may indicate the need for a vet visit and additional treatment

German Shepherds have sensitive stomachs all around. Is it vomiting or diarrhea? I would recommend a gastrointestinal diet, it is typically prescription but this is a great way to help their diets. Sometimes they need a hydrolyzed diet for potential food allergies. I would also talk to your veterinarian about probiotics to see if this will help Zeus also.
