Is Novolin 70/30 safe for my dog if he normally takes Novolin N?

Updated on September 23, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | 12 years and 9 months old | 80 lbs

The pharmacy have me Novolin 70/30 instead of Novolin N for my 12 year old lab. He takes 22 units. Can I still use this insulin ?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

No. I do not recommend using that insulin with out talking to your Vet. Novolin 70/30 is NOT the same as Novolin N and we do not know how TJ will react to Novolin 70/30. Novolin 70/30 contains a mixture that is 70% intermediate-acting insulin with 30% short-acting insulin, while Novolin N is all intermediate acting. I would suggest calling the pharmacy.

I hope this helps!
