My dog won't eat, shaking, clearing throat, head tilted. What to do?

Oh no, I'm sorry Ziggy isn't doing well at all Edye and Chris! Based on the symptoms you have described, I wouldn't rush him into the ER vet tonight. It can be worrying that he has had minimal appetite today and is lethargic, but not eating or drinking for 3.5 hours isn't concerning just yet. You are correct that it could be his belly upsetting him, and I would monitor him overnight. Should he still not be eating or drinking in the morning, or if he is still lethargic, then I would take Ziggy into the vet. Over the night, if he starts vomiting, having diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, then yes I would take him into an ER vet. Hopefully he just has an upset stomach and will feel better in the morning. You can try offering him some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts to see if that tempts him to eat. I hope this helps and Ziggy feels better soon!

I'm sorry Paws isn't doing well at the moment! I would try offering him water. Give him a chance to drink the water, I would keep offering it to him over an hour. If he refuses to drink the water, or he drinks the water and then vomits it up, then I would take him into the ER vet. It's a pretty serious sign when a dog won't drink water or can't keep it down, and in cases like that, it's best for them to see a vet right away. Should he drink the water and keep it down, then it's fine to wait until the morning to take him into the vet. Continue to monitor him tonight, and if Paws becomes very lethargic, the shaking gets worse, he starts vomiting, or he shows any other signs of illness, then take him into an ER vet right away. Call your vet clinic back, tell them it's urgent, and if they can't see or accept her as a drop-off, take her to someone else who will see her. She may have eaten something toxic, that didn't agree with her, she could have swallowed a non-food item that is now causing a blockage, she could have an infection, there are a number of possibilities. Your vet will do an exam, labwork, and x-rays to determine why she is ill and based on those results they will be better able to tell you what is wrong and how best to treat it.

I am so sorry for your concerns with Ziggy, but any acute change in behavior & mentation indicates a possible neurological disturbance. It would be in yours & Ziggy's best interest to have him seen this evening rather than waiting til morning. It could be Zoey is in a lot of pain or she could be quite sick. I would keep a very close eye on her for now, and if she is still acting this way in the morning, have her seen by a vet. If she starts vomiting or has diarrhea, take her into a vet immediately.

Poor guy. It sounds like at the very least Ziggy has an upper airway infection. I would recommend taking him to your vet to get him examined today if possible. If he does have an infection, then a short course of antibiotics prescribed by your vet generally is enough to resolve the issue. Poor Zia! I suspect that she is dehydrated and weak, then when you have her the dextrose yesterday it gave her a lift. Unfortunately the effects seen to have been temporary. I imagine that the benefit has worn off and she is too sick to get better by herself. She may have a bug in her stomach that is making her vomit, or something else such as a foreign body. I think after this period of time you will need to take her to a vet as she will likely need IV fluids and will need some medication to help her get better. If you can't take her to the vet all you can do at home is keep her warm and get her to take as much fluids as you can.
