Why won't my 10-month-old dog eat, only drinks, and breathes oddly?

Poor Ruka sounds very ill at the moment. Anorexia (not eating) is a very general sign of many illnesses, which could be caused by dental problems, systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. She could have have a hard time breathing because she has a respiratory infection or cardiac disease. Being quite sick would lead her to seem very weak. Poor Treasure! It could be that she is in pain or she could be very sick. It's quite concerning that such a young puppy is breathing fast, not moving, not eating, drinking, or peeing. These symptoms in such a young dog are a medical emergency, and she has to see a vet immediately. She needs veterinary care now to diagnose what is causing these symptoms so she can be treated. It is difficult to tell what could be going on from your description but likely associated causes could include infections with viral diseases such as parvo, congenital abnormalities such as an abnormal heart or a liver shunt, problems with his bone marrow, or even a low blood sugar. This could require further evaluation by your veterinarian. In the interim, a simple thing to try now is to rub Karo Syrup on his gums to treat for low blood sugar. Unfortunately with out some testing I cannot tell you exactly what caused her episodes. It is possible she could have low blood sugar, a liver shunt, congenital disease (born with an issue), seizures, or infectious disease. I would recommend taking her to a vet due to severity of clinical signs and multiple incidents. The vet will need to do some blood work and exam to help narrow down what is causing Sarah her issues.

She may either be going through a growth spurt, or she may have low glucose. If she isn't eating at least 3/4th of her normal diet, then I would be concerned about possible low glucose or another neurological condition. Hi there! I'm very sorry to hear about Kimi's troubles. If I had a client call and report the clinical signs you are describing, I'd ask to see the puppy right away. Young puppies, especially smaller ones, can be susceptible to getting a low blood sugar if they go a long time without eating. Not to mention that they can get dehydrated fairly easily as well. I'd definitely recommend Kimi go in to see her veterinarian right away. The veterinarian can perform an exam and check her hydration status. They may also want to check Kimi for an infection of some kind, and/or evaluate some diagnostics like radiographs and lab work. Kimi may need some in-hospital treatments or even just some medications for you to give at home. Things that can make puppies not feel well and stop eating include, but aren't limited to viruses, baceterial infections, ingesting toxic materials, ingesting pieces of toy or blanket and getting a blockage, eating anything out of the ordinary and getting indigestion, or even parasites. If very young small puppies go too long between meals, their blood sugar can drop too low. This results in a weak lethargic puppy that will be less interested in eating and drinking. You can try using a supplement known as NutriCal to keep her blood sugar up. If she seems unresponsive, place karo syrup on her gums and seek immediate veterinary care. Otherwise, leave puppy food available at all times so that she does not need to go extended periods between meals. Continue this until she is around 4 months of age. As far as another puppy food option, I would use a small or tiny breed formula from Purina or Hills. These are trustworthy companies with products backed by extensive research. You can add warm water to the dry kibble, mix canned and dry food or just offer canned. You may have to try different combinations to see what she likes. I hope this information helps!
