My 4-year-old dog is not eating, losing balance, and very sleepy. Why?

Poor Harley. It could be he is nauseous or has a dental problem causing the drooling. If he has a dental problem, it could extend into his sinuses, leading to the balance problems. But the balance problems could be caused by something else like an ear infection. I think he definitely needs to see a vet, and I would take him into one first thing in the morning. Best of luck.

Unfortunately these are very general signs of being unwell and it is not possible to tell you what might be wrong with your dog. However, the reluctance to walk and the fact that Ryder is nearly 13 years old, is a good indication that he may be suffering from serious arthritis which now is paining him so much that he cannot hide the pain anymore. This, of course, may also be the cause for not eating. You should make an appointment with your vet for an exam of his hips and legs, a small NSAIDs panel (blood work) and pain medication.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Harley! Look closely at Harley's eyes...are they moving quickly side to side or rolling? If they are then he could be having a vestibular event. The most common cause is a middle ear infection (under the ear drum) that causes inflammation of the peripheral nerve that control balance. Other causes could be more serious: stroke, seizure, brain tumor, metabolic issues or bleeding that is causing weakness. Harley should see your Vet ASAP this morning for an exam. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would be worried about a few things regarding Bindi with what you are describing. One possibility if a bleeding tumor. If Bindi is older (>4-5 years old) this becomes more likely. You can look at her gums to see if they are pink or white. Otherwise, it is possible she got into a toxin (like marijuana) which can make her sleeping, be normal when 'roused' but otherwise be very flat and tired. If she is dribbling urine this is more likely. There are many other conditions as well. I would suggest calling the clinics in your area and finding one that does out of hours calls to see if they could see you. There are many other causes for her clinical signs, and without seeing her or knowing more it is hard to narrow it down. Best of luck with Bindi.

I would be worried that Rags is in pain, and the lack of appetite can be a sign of it. Not eating is concerning, so I would take him into a vet right away. The vet can diagnose if he is in pain and can treat him for it, and can figure out why he's not eating. Best of luck.

I would definitely recommend some blood work, if this hasn't been done recently. Older dogs are prone to a number of health issues that can cause decreased appetite along with being less active - chronic kidney disease and hypothyroidism are two possibilities that are both very common. In many cases, these issues are treatable (at least to some extent) once a diagnosis is made, so it's well worth checking for them if you can - hopefully, there are some things you can do to make him feel better for as long as possible, even though he's getting older.

I am sorry tootsie is having a hard time. My concern would be arthritis, possible back disease, neurological issues or infection. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian for a good exam to check her back and back for pain. I would recommend limiting her excercise and not allowing her to jump until she is checked out.
