Spayed Boston Terrier's nipples oozing yellow. Is it an infection?

So sorry to hear that Lilly is having this issue. Is this discharge coming from all the nipples or just one? First off, let me say that it is best to not touch the nipples too much and don't try to "milk" the fluid out. If there is not an infection already you will introduce one that way. The two main reasons for nipple discharge in a spayed female are infection and cancer. The other possibility is that she has an ovarian remnant - this means that when she was spayed they accidentally left a small piece of ovary behind. This piece can still produce hormones that can cause this discharge. I strongly suggest you get her to your vet for an examination. As long as Letty is behaving normally, is not feverish and has no discomfort or discharge from the site then she can probably wait until morning. Keep an e-collar(cone) on her to prevent licking orbchewibg of the site. Monitor for lethargy, discomfort, fever, bleeding or discharge. These are symptoms that should be addressed by a veterinarian.

I'm glad to hear that Bree is feeling well after her spay surgery. However, the single most important thing you can do during her recovery is preventing her from licking at the incision for at least 10-14 days after surgery. The best way to achieve this is by putting an e-collar (cone) on her. These are typically available through veterinarians or most pet stores. The blood and yellow discharge could indicate a sign of incisional infection from her licking, or could be irritation caused from her jumping and activity. Since you are seeing blood and yellow discharge, I do recommend taking Bree back to her vet for an exam to determine if an infection is present. If her incision has become infected, topical antibiotic sprays are not typically very effective and oral antibiotics are often needed. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

It certainly sounds like she may have a mammary gland infection or even a uterine infection and the growling is a warning not to touch her as she may be in pain or feels very vulnerable due to not feeling well. I would certainly take her to a vet or PetER tomorrow if she has not improved or is worse or does not eat or if she drinks more water than usual.

Hello. This is nothing to be overly concerned about. Manakoa is old enough that there are hormones circulating & this nipple just seems to be a little more sensitive to the effects of estrogen at this point in time. If you were planning on spaying her, this is a good time to consider doing so, but otherwise, as long as the nipple does not continue to show further hormonal influence, it should not significantly affect her. Poor girl. No this is not normal. She likely has suffered some type of injury and needs to have this area inspected by your vet and treated. She may need stitches, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicine. I hope Lil One gets better soon. You can try wrapping a clean t-shirt or bandage material around her to help stabilize the area if you can’t get her in right away and it continues to bleed. Best of luck and take care.

Breeds like Penelope are prone to skin infections in the folds. If the balms and wipes are not helping, I recommend to have her examined by her veterinarian. She may need an antibiotic or a medicated wipes. Your veterinarian also may carry products for routine cleaning which help to adjust the pH of the skin and this can help prevent infections. Lastly, if she seems itchy, it’s possible she has allergies. It is best to rule out an infection first and foremost. I hope this helps.
