My dog gets super nervous at the groomer. How can I help his anxiety?

Over the counter calming agents don't see to work well. A visit to your vet for sedatives is well worth the investment for medications that work well. keep in mind, there are a few options and you may need to try a few before you find the right one. Great question! There are a few things you can do with Booboo. He does need to see a vet, so I would see if there is a mobile vet in your area who can come to your home to see him. You can also see if there is a vet in your area that makes house calls. To help with his anxiety, given that he seems to have a lot of it, you can discuss with the vet about the possibility of giving Booboo anti-anxiety drugs. There are a few OTC things you can try as well. You can get his a DAP collar, which releases pheromones when in contact with his skin that helps with anxiety. You can also get a DAP diffuser to plug in which can be used with the DAP collar as well.

Hello. It is good that you are exposing Oscar to new things. Overtime he should adjust, but you do have to go slow & limit these public excursions to a few minutes at a time. I am sure you are very reassuring with him, but do reward him with special treats when he seems to relax. You can also try some of the natural stress relieving products such as Zylkene. There is nothing OTC that you can give safely. It is never recommended to medicate your pet without the advice of your veterinarian. You can try a homeopathic product such as Rescue Remedy for Pets. It may help take the edge off for the grooming.

George is very lucky that you rescued him. There are a lot of options for anxiety and stress in dogs. It can vary from prescription medications to herbal supplements to wraps to decrease anxiety. Poor Rielly. I would try a calming chew like composure or the prescription version, composure pro. You can also put a calming collar on him like adaptil. These may help to curb the anxiety of your leaving in the morning. If this doesn't help, I would talk to your vet about start him on an anti-anxiety medicine to help keep him. This won't change his personality. It should just help him not be so worried about your leaving. If all else fails, when you take him outside in the morning, I would try to lock him out of your room or put a baby gate up at your door to prevent him from being able to get in there. This is a tough love approach but may work. I hope this helps!
