My dog's neck is always wet and smells bad. What should I do?

I see what you mean about that area under Pete's neck. I also do not recommend using any more water or soaps to clean it. The skin itself looks a bit irritated, and I wonder if he needs something like an antibiotic or steroid cream to treat it. It could be an allergic dermatitis and/or a bacterial skin infection. You could bathe him with a medicated dog shampoo and clean that area with an antiseptic wound cleaner to see if that helps. Otherwise he will need to be examined by a veterinarian for treatment. Your vet can prescribe an antibiotic, anti-histamine, corticosteroid, and/or other medications to help treat the problem.

The doctor may give him a systemic antibiotic or may only give him topicals if the lesion is very small. Sometimes these pets can be itchy as well and will get medication for that too. The spot in the picture looks infected, it will need to be clipped and treated with antibiotics. he will also need to wear an e-collar in order to prevent him from licking the area and making it worse. i would recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it treated.
