Why is my dog's neck oozing yellow liquid or pus and losing hair?

Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching (if any). It sounds like your dog has a skin infection so he should be examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. It could be secondary to an injury or possibly allergies. He may need an oral antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory to help treat the problem.

It looks like Bruno has a skin infection. Parasites like mites and fleas can cause irritation of the skin that can lead to bacterial infections. If he has not had skin scrapings performed to look for mites, that would be my recommendation. If there are no mites, and he has been treated for fleas, then perhaps the topical medications he is on are not enough, and he needs an oral antibiotic to control the infection. I hope this helps. This sounds like a sudden bacterial skin infection. Well there could be lots of causes the treatment is pretty standard with wound cleaning of the area and usually an antibiotic medication. Your veterinarian will need to see Ryder to determine what antibiotic is appropriate as well as have any topical medication as needed. In the meantime keep the area clean and dry as much as possible but do not apply an ointment as it could trap moisture and lead to further bacterial growth.

To me is sounds like Broodie may have a skin infection known as bacterial dermatitis. This can be caused secondarily by allergies, mite infestations, flea problems, and food allergies. It would be best to take Broodie to your veterinarian so that she can be examined and if necessary, treatments like antibiotics can be started. I am so sorry to hear about Rocky. Based on your photo I suspect he has what we call a "hot spot" or acute moist pyoderma. This is a bacterial infection of the skin and can be painful and itchy. Most often we treat these by shaving and cleaning the area then prescribing a course of antibiotics and steroids. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bruno! I would have him rechecked. I would clean the skin and shave the fur away. I would consider oral steroids and oral antibiotics. I would also consider treating with with Nexgard to rule out demodex. I would also consider a different eye ointment, one with a steroid in it. Be sure your Vet checks to be sure he doesn't have a clogged tear duct or any other ocular issue that would cause increased tearing. I hope this helps and I wish you and Bruno the very best!
