My chihuahua has a lump. How much does surgery to remove it cost?

Hi there. Costs will vary greatly depending on the area you live in and the clinic you go to, as well as factors like the size and location of the lumps, overall difficulty of the procedure, etc. So this would be a question to ask the veterinarian who is going to perform the surgery - their staff should be happy to give you a detailed estimate for the costs involved. Some types of masses do get bigger and smaller over time. Your veterinarian should be able to explain why has been happening after the masses are sent off for histopath to find out what they are.

Unfortunately without seeing the tests myself, I cannot say for sure whether or not it is cancerous. A lot would depend on its location as to whether or not it needs to be surgically removed. You could have an abdominal ultrasound done to help identify where it is located. Sometimes the mass can be aspirated during the exam and a small sample of cells can be examined under the microscope to help determine whether or not it is cancerous. If it is on the spleen and it is bleeding or growing then I would recommend a splenectomy. I have seen these masses be both benign and malignant. Removing the spleen is the best treatment to prevent both types of masses from rupture and prevent the cancer from spreading. As far as costs, I would talk to your vet about whether they offer payment plans or care credit. I would also ask for an estimate beforehand so your can properly plan. I hope this helps!

This looks like a small sebaceous cyst and the black part is the content. They are usually benign and no treatment is commonly required. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm this clinical suspicion.

Hi there and thank you for your post! From your pictures this looks typical of a benign wart like growth thay we see in older dogs. The most common we see is what is called a sebaceous adenoma. Basically a benign growth of the glands in the skin. However, that being said, it requires more than just looking at it to diagnose it. If you want a more specific accurate diagnosis, the most accurate way is to have it removed and to send it out for histopathology (A test to determine what it is). Your vet can also perform an FNA test where a needle is inserted into the mass and looked at under the microscope. If Honey has bad teeth and is in need of a dental cleaning, you could have this removed at the same time and sent out for testing. Let me know if you have any other concerns!

Costs will vary by geographical location. After an initial exam, typically $25-$50, the veterinarian will be able to provide an estimate for services. A fine needle aspirate can be done on the lumps to collect samples for pathology. Once results are received, the lump can simply be monitored or they may need surgical resection. Do not hesitate to request an estimate. Most clinics will provide one as a matter of hospital policy.

If a vet has told you that it is a salivary gland issue, then they were likely referring to a sialocele. These can definitely get bigger as time goes on and may need to be surgically removed. Below is a link to more information about this condition. https://www.acvs.org/small-animal/salivary-mucocele If this was not diagnosed by a vet, then it's best to have her evaluated sometime soon. I worry about this being a tumor, or enlarged lymph node, which could be much more serious than a sialocele. I hope that helps and Bear gets better soon.

If the mass has changed in size, colour or texture then yes, removal and biopsy is recommended immediately. If not, you could opt to monitor closely but be cautious it may change quickly and become difficult to remove or he may develop other complicating factors such as kidney disease or other conditions which may make anaesthetic less safe than it is at the moment. Biopsy of a small mass is a minor procedure with minimal risk of complications other than the small risk which accompanies all anaesthetics
