My dog's tail is low. Is it related to eating dirt or throwing up?

I would recommend stopping the Deramaxx if she is vomiting today as it can cause the side effect of stomach upset in some dogs. If Bella is still vomiting tomorrow I would recommend a recheck at your vet and if bloodwork was already performed and was normal would consider an x-ray of the abdomen. We don't usually see vomiting along with limber tail/limp tail so it is possible she has something else going on at the same time.

I'm sorry to hear that Maddie is not feeling well. It's possible that she had some trauma to her tail, hit it on something, got a bite wound or an insect bite or sting. If there is discharge there, you could try and put a warm compress on it to encourage drainage and then apply a topical triple antibiotic ointment. If it continues to look worse, I would have an exam done by a veterinarian. If the vomiting and poor appetite continues I would also take her to the vet for this reason. I'm unsure if these could be related or two separate causes. I hope she gets feeling better soon!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Jess! The most common cause for a limp or down tail and decreased activity is back pain. Back pain can be from a slipped disk or a muscle strain or sprain. They tend to hurt and thus do not want to play or jump up or do stairs. Pain also affects the appetite. I highly recommend a Vet visit today as it is Friday. The vet should be able to elicit back pain on exam. I treat with anti-inflammatories, pain medications, muscle relaxants and strict rest. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I know you feel bad! We see this happen a lot, puppies and kittens are very squirmy! I would say that 98% of the time the puppies are fine. If she is walking well and not limping, is playing and eating I think she falls in to the category! She still may be a bit sore and that is why her tail isn't wagging. I would watch her closely and I bet she will be 100% very soon! I hope this helps and good luck!

If he's only vomited once and seems to be returning to normal, I would just keep an eye on him. You can pick up his food and offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken to help settle any minor GI upset. If he doesn't return fully to normal after another day or so, or if his symptoms return or worsen, having a vet take a look in person is best.

The vomiting is very unlikely to be related to the surgeries and could perhaps be related to any post-operative medications that she is on (if that applies) or perhaps something unrelated. If she is on any medications, check with your veterinarian to see if these can be discontinued. Otherwise, have her evaluated by your veterinarian to check for any other possible causes like gastroenteritis. At the very least they can start her on anti-nausea medications. It's possible he has some sensitivity or discomfort. It could be associated with the bath or completely unrelated. Monitor him for lethargy, restless or sensitivity around his back end. Look him over for obvious signs or injury such as bruising or swelling. If you notice anything or if he develops any of these symptoms, have him examined by your veterinarian.
