Dog's licked sore smells awful and won't heal. Is it infected?

Poor baby. Definitely looks red and irritated. It may need oral antibiotics or possibly just some topical antibiotics. I would call and schedule an exam and get the correct medications. The cause could be infection, allergies, immune mediated conditions, and more. Needs to be looked at a little more closely.

From the pictures, the skin appears red and inflamed. It does look like it is infected. While this may not be a true emergency, I would recommend getting in to see your veterinarian very soon. Pookie will need the area shaved and cleaned up. Your vet may prescribe an antibiotic for this as well depending. Until you can get to your vet, you can keep the area clean and dry and use a mild soap and water to clean the wound. If Pookie is licking it, you can put on ECollar on her to prevent licking.

Because it is getting worse quickly, make an appointment tomorrow to get your Vet to look at ti. They will likely prescribe antibiotics, something for the itch, and maybe a topical. Good luck!

If it seems to be bothering Ellie or if the sore is getting larger I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian. I probably wouldn't apply any medication since she may be licking it off, and ointments can make some kinds of skin infections worse. If the sore is not going away in the next 2-3 days, if it is getting larger in size or if you notice more sores I'd recommend having your vet take a look.

It sounds like Cleo's sore has become infected if it's red and full of puss. She could have injured herself, or could have licked the area raw due to irritation. She will need to see a vet for antibiotics for the infection, there are no home remedies for that, and I would have her seen by a vet in the morning. For tonight, you can soak her paw in an Epson salt bath for five minutes.

Poor Coco. Based on the pictures, I am concerned that it is infected and that is not a normal part of the healing process. It looks worse in the second picture compared to the first. She cannot wait two weeks to see a vet, I would see if you can get her in on an emergency basis or take her into an ER vet. While you are calling around to get her into an ER vet, put a cone on her to keep her from licking it and making it worse. You can make one at home or buy one at a pet store. That area looks pretty inflamed. If there is also discharge coming from the wound, I would worry it is infected. It will need to be seen by your vet so they can clip the area and clean it, and provide any medications such as antibiotics to treat the infection. Until you can get to your vet, keeping the area clean and dry and preventing Alvin from licking with the use of an Elizabethan (cone) collar is best.
